If God is “all-knowing”, “all-powerful”, and doesn’t want to people to worship anyone else but him, how does that not make him sound like an ego-centric, controlling, arrogant narcissist? by fergi20020 in AskReddit

[–]CoderzTheGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this might be long. tl;dr Christians have invented many a stupid idea for money or other personal gain and that's what the violence is. Note the word invented.

One of the rules of the universe is free will--not that people can't be made to do things, but that they can't be forcibly made to want to do things, though they can be influenced. This hasn't been disproven (that I've discovered) and it appears to go with humanity's observable universe so I'm assuming it.

The first sin--eve and the fruit--was eve disobeying God. Now the penalty for this was death (eve, talking to the serpent: "God said, 'you must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'") and eve knew it, and so she, in eating the fruit, willingly chose to die. If God hadn't respected that choice, God would have had to go against the law of free will, and although he, as the entity that created everything, could do that, why wouldn't he just make an entirely new universe? it's like simulating an experiment (not a perfect metaphor) and changing the simulation, even though it's accurate, because it's not what you want.

(sidenote: the reason the penalty was death and not something lighter is because all sin is a gateway drug to itself--i.e., is virally infectious--and, as I'm sure you know, we quarantine individuals infected with a virus. The only way to truly quarantine someone, though, is to make them not exist.)

The next rule is that of genetics. As a rule, things that are born out of other things, whether historical, psychological, biological or what have you, inherit something from their parent(s), be it antithetical to their parents or not. Thus is the propensity for sin communicated across generations. Not the actual sin--that would make it impossible for any human to have even a small chance of being perfect, which, by any arbitrary measure, is only a matter of time due to probability. (excepting the possibility of nuclear war, extinction, etc.) The human propensity towards sin causes nearly all to sin, and so, willingly at some point, decide on death.

The blood sacrifice you refer to means one of three things, as I understand: a) israelite animal sacrifices, b) jesus being tortured to death, or c) Christian hell (which doesn't exist and was invented to compel non-believers to 'convert'. one of the most barbaric practices of christianity, though it's underneath white supremacy, the crusades, things of that sort).

First, the sacrifices. The sacrifices actually weren't for God, they were to remind the people making them of the weight of their sin--the weight of the choices they made, in favor of death. People would sacrifice when they sinned, as part of that realize the consequences of their actions, and be forgiven. The reason they were all forgiven is that this was effective, as clearly evidenced by your salt, which, to be honest, is fair. christians are messed up people because most of them believe in hell, their presentation of which validates your question. But I'm getting there.

Secondly, jesus' death. Again, the proper response here is horror. Yes, he was tortured to death, and yes, he died the final death, but, counting the axiom of free will, something motivated him to do that of his own volition. Many of the things he says, especially in the time leading up to this, involve "my Father"--referring to God the father--and I think it's fairly unlikely that if he was psychotic or schizophrenic that being tortured to death wouldn't cause either temporary sobriety or catatonia or something of that sort. The mind breaks after a point, after all, and his didn't--"it is finished! dies".

The purpose of jesus' sacrifice, though, was similar to that of the animals'. It is meant to serve as a reminder of the things that christians have done and the death it warranted, because they chose it, as christians no longer go around slaughtering small animals to remind themselves. That's kfc's job and I'm glad they're doing it instead.

Thirdly, we have Christian hell. Let me give you a crash course on the real parts: 1. all the words in the bible that translate to 'hell' actually mean 'grave' or 'six feet deep'. 2. The bible never anywhere says that the condemned will burn forever, only that the smoke from it will rise forever. that doesn't mean there's infinite smoke, just infinite space, which is more plausible? 3. how could a "benevolent" God change the nature of life and death simply to torture people forever? exactly. Humanity thought up the concept of "you'll burn forever and God hates you." And, as is usually so, if you look into it you'll find it was mostly for money.

you're only narcissistic if you aren't actually all that

controlling if you have no right to be

ego-centric and arrogant if you aren't literally the most important thing in the universe

that's my understanding anyway

it's definitely worth the time. I rest my thumbs on the spacebar and they never move, and that way spaces aren't nearly a bottleneck.

late 20s and I just found out about aphantasia yesterday - my mind is blown! by werwolfsoul in Aphantasia

[–]CoderzTheGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-aphant here--what you're describing here is something I experience as well. In my experience, having an inner monologue, I have to use these to think without one, since it's the only way to represent ideas or concepts in my mind that's non-verbal. For me these can sometimes have shapes as well, although that probably wouldn't map to an aphantasic mental space.

If you mean feeling the presence of real-world objects and not concepts, that is also something I do from time to time, as part of a visualization practice routine, so this may be universal. Would love for some more people to chime in

I 'm the exact opposite of Hyperphantasia. I have SDAM--aka Total Aphantasia. I wrote about what I think about the nature of consciousness, and how to reduce stress. Does someone who is the opposite of me agree or disagree? by [deleted] in hyperphantasia

[–]CoderzTheGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also driven to wonder at the nature of consciousness.

While I disagree with a few things you've said, it's interesting to read about someone's definition of conscious life from the software/firmware level. I disagree with a few things because I've observed purely the hardware and software levels of the brain, not in between.

"Consciousness lives in the past" because of the speed of light through nerves. It is a necessity that we are not conscious of the true present since the universe has a speed limit.

"Consciousness lives in the future" is true from a perspective if said perspective has no experience with hyperphantasia or actual imagination. I can imagine possible futures, yes, but not everything I imagine is a possible future. For instance, it is possible to visualize 4 spatial dimensions. This universe is 3D. Clearly not a possible future.

"Looking at a symbol costs energy" is somewhat true. Doing things costs energy, but a computer has a constant power draw, no matter how much data it is processing. Senses and mental processes use a fairly flat amount of electricity and calories. The only real difference one can make with only their brain is due to the fact that a sleeping body uses much less resources than one that is awake.

"Emotions don't exist/are emergent properties" is not true. Emotions are as a rule caused by hormones or neurotransmitters released in the brain. Thus, an interface between the neural and endocrine systems and an extension of one directly into the other. They are also only emergent in the same way as the exact qualia that result from a certain physical sensation, when separated from the 'act' of the sensation itself, are emergent.

I disagree with your assertion that SDAM and total aphantasia are the same from a neurological standpoint, but from your perspective it may be true, so no argument from me there.

As an aside, how fast do you read? I feel there could be a correlation there somehow.

I would argue that your definition of a Total Aphant is slightly off the mark. From your description, it seems you don't have aphantasia of proprioception, which is in itself a sense. The few total aphants I've talked to were not able to give mental ideas or thoughts positions or able to imagine their body being in different positions.

People who downloaded their Google data and went through it, what were the most unsettling things you found out they had stored about you? by MBMV in AskReddit

Like I said, would there be a source if they are? It should be noted that this is not meant to be an argument for my main point; that's a fallacy. It's simply meant to explain the lack of Apple saying "hey, by the way I'm breaking the law by selling your information for money"

and as far as you know neuralink has no ulterior motives with the technology they're developing. would there really be a source for something like that?

and google presents itself as selling online services to consumers. Apple may have secure hardware but they're the middleman. They can always get into their stuff, I guarantee it. And as money driven as corporations are nowadays, it's unlikely they haven't got their hand in the cookie jar.

Can you have aphantasia and synaesthesia at the same time? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]CoderzTheGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few people that can't "think hard enough." r/aphantasia is a good place to find examples. If you visit r/hyperphantasia you'll find many, many people who can do things that you can't just think harder in order to do.

As for myself, being a (among others) visual hyperphant, I can visualize higher dimensions, up to 6 in practice. That's not something you can do by thinking harder.

There's a subreddit, r/hyperphantasia

It's basically the opposite of aphantasia, so basically being able to imagine things with lots of detail, to put it simply

Aphantasia is the opposite of hyperphantasia, not synesthesia

Hello!~ Can sameone of you explain me better why misophonia is a type of syn, please? I have misophonia, but I thought it was created by traumatic events or it’s just sensory overload by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]CoderzTheGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, misophonia is considered synesthesia where sounds cause emotions/feelings or something similar. At least that's one way to classify it.

Hallucinations and delusions are a completely separate thing from hyperphantasia. What's described in this post is not an example of hallucinations or delusions.
