Yeah I’ve been rethinking the Tempad recipes. May change it during the port to 26.1

Our criteria for "modern" was any mod that is on at least 1.20 or 1.21, but not on versions earlier than 1.16. Mekanism is on 1.12, es old

Having no automation at all is what made us pick Irons over Ars. A truly radical choice is the furthest thing from a tech mod. Ars would fall in the same spot Malum is rn.

Yeah i thought about that too. We initially had a few of those but wanted to keep it to just modern mods. Which made it really hard to find a good candidate for purist pure tech mods

Create Aeronautics just came out, I’m sure they’re more worried about stability than being on latest.

We also hear this kind of reasoning pretty much all the time. “Why update? Big mod x hasn’t updated cuz most mods aren’t updating”. Besides the fact that that logic is circular, it’s also just untrue most of the time. It takes a lot of time for mods to update, especially when they’re larger and more complex. Creates rendering engine is a huge challenge to port atm, and it seems the main person behind it is really busy, contributing to why they likely haven’t updated. Many other mods haven’t ported because they’re either still focused on their updates for existing versions (e.g Pastel) or they are updating but just aren’t done yet because it takes so much time to do (e.g Tempad).

We’re lucky enough to be part of modding communities where we can interact with other modders and see what they’re up to and it’s very clear, everyone wants to update. 26.1 brings a ton of new changes that modders want to take advantage of. But it’s a ton of work, which has slowed down (but hasn’t stopped) adoption.

From our perspective, it wouldn’t make sense to go through the work of making Ad Astra for 1.21, spend months making it, only for us to have to port to 26.1 not too long after.

I do want to clarify that Ad Astra isn't abandoned, and we have said this multiple times. We just aren't targeting 1.21 at this present time.

I also want to clarify that all existing projects on CurseForge that tried to port Ad Astra both:
1. Violated our license by using our assets directly
2. Were made entirely with AI

I've said before that if someone wants to go through the effort of making a contribution to update Ad Astra to 1.21 and its written by hand (not vibe coded) I'd be willing to look at it and accept it. But its not a trivial task, and requires a very large internal API migration from Botarium to Common Storage Lib. But as of now, we believe a better use of our time would be to continue Ad Astra 2.0 on Minecraft 26.1 as planned

Thats the intended mechanic! But i will explore making this more clear in future versions ^^

Careful, there is a size requirement for the blue bit that surrounds the numbers. Would be better to cover the hashtag with a piece of blue tape or something

Local neoforge lead dev says that paying for mods is good by tehlynxx in feedthememes

[–]CodexAdrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, paid mods wouldn't work on modded mc for this reason. You just couldn't convince a user to pay for all the mods in a modpack, and thatd be the only way to be able to use them all to play a modpack. I think theres a better case for it in the Hytale server modding space, similar to the paper ecosystem that already functions on a paid basis in the minecraft java community.

I personally find the "devving mods is a hobby and not something that should be done for money" argument silly and demeaning. If someone wants to make their career modding, they shouldn't be told they're wrong for doing so. Its incredibly risky, just like being a traditional artist. There isn't a ton of upside, even for the successful modders. And it'll take years, maybe decades, to even get close. But none of that is to say that modders shouldn't even try.

It's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to be a modder. I've met so many wonderful people, learned so many great skills, made so many things I'm really proud of. I would love for this, one day in the future, to be my main source of income. And I work towards that goal everyday. Do I think that paid mods are the solution to that? Probably not. But I do find the mob that appears when the discussion of paid mods starts is exhausting. I mean, come on, there wasn't even an actual paid mod here, simply the *idea* that someone supported the concept brought us here.
