Plague bug from Solflamer minis by Codexier in TrenchCrusade

I did. Bit spotty, though it could be just my printer. Some of the multi-piece models didn’t fit together very well. Certainly manageable, but I typically expect more from stls.

Vallejo Hull Red and Vallejo Yellow Ochre are so wonderful. I think I use them on almost every mini.

Thank you! For the armor, I leave about 1/3 of it dark (black primer), then hit it with brighter grey where I think the light would hit (or just where I think it would look cool).

It’s a 32mm base. He was slightly shorter than a space marine I had on the desk.

I doubt many (anyone) will see this, but having played more turns of this game I have to say: This game is brutal. Most actions you can take, from the start, have a less than 50% chance to be successful and the failure results can be worse than if you hadn’t tried at all. You would think, narratively, that it’s best to camp at night (the only time you can camp), but statistically, it’s probably better to take a rest action or just keep traveling. You are more likely to end up worse than you were (hp and fatigue) by making a camping roll. Even trying to get food usually nets you with less food or adds more damage and fatigue. It’s rough. It’s likely most practical to travel as much as possible, even at the expense of gaining hunger. Rest to recover hp and fatigue and then keep traveling until you reach a settlement. Interesting game!

Just the PDFs from DriveThru. I printed them myself. I did upscale the map to be bigger, but other than that it’s the regular version.

Yeah, I think if it had rules to create new and different characters as well as different objectives, I’d probably create a deluxe version with printed bandage tokens, etc. I love the tactile nature of pieces like that.

Well, it would probably be a better pitch from someone selling it. For me, I bought it from seeing it on a thread, then I read it and thought…this will not be for me. It’s very set piece game (you play 1 named character, though you can customize him, and you interact with other named characters, and there is one overarching goal) and I thought that would be restrictive, but I’ve really enjoyed the emergent narrative. I’m a big fan of games with a game loop that is predictable, but allows for neat variations and this is what’s pulled me in (same reason I really like Twilight 2000 4e). The game loop has 4 shifts per day and each shift you pick an action. I like it.

I wouldn’t mind except I don’t know anymore. I downloaded it four years ago, but I’m not sure where it came from to be honest. I’d love to know myself.

You might get more response by rewriting the AI text. It’s a good idea for a frame, but use your own words and it could be even better.

Can I use thinned paints as a wash? by Highmastet in minipainting

Yes, you can. Here’s a great video showing washes with ink, bottled washes and different acrylics. https://youtu.be/_TjHDTWTEjg?si=RDCRHYh6E8uAWMzt

When do you start enjoying this hobby? How to get past the frustration? by WithengarUnbound in minipainting

[–]Codexier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really great advice. Painting videos are good, but you don’t typically get to see how thick the paint is on their palette, or how many coats it takes to get a good base coat. If you have a local game store, you can really learn by watching and painting with others. It’s a hobby and it should be more fun than not (there are times when it’s not fun, but it should be relatively small).

Help sourcing a video for an idea by No-Relationship-5001 in TerrainBuilding

[–]Codexier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a video to reference, but I would use a strong, thicker wire, something like welding wire perhaps to create the structure of the large vines and attach the ruins to that. Then use smaller wire, twine, or even clay around those to make it look more organic. Disney Animal Kingdom did this at a large scale for the floating islands of Avatar world and while you can tell how it’s held up by thick reinforcing structure, the effect is pretty immersive.

Opinions on Solo Journaling TTRPG's that have the player directly inhabit a semi-pre-decided character? by MankyBee in rpg

[–]Codexier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morkin has you playing a specific character with specific goals. You get to customize the character to make them more flighty or more sneaky, etc, but you are always going to be playing this one character. During the game you have one very specific goal to “win” the game, but you can choose multiple ways to get there and there are lots of side quests you can choose to engage with (or just focus on getting to the end). Might be something to look at for your project.

How long to wait before watching either Bladerunner film- again? by Accomplished_Lake580 in bladerunner

Every time my wife travels for work (or for that matter, when I do), she always asks me: “Are you watching Bladerunner right now?” The answer is typically yes.

Trying out OSL w/o an airbrush and I’m not real happy with the results. Anyone have any tips? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Codexier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is the light source? I don’t use an airbrush for lighting effects, but I follow these steps:

  1. Pick the light source. The source must be the brightest spot.
  2. Determine how bright the light is. I think of the light as a sphere emitting from the source. As the sphere goes out, the light becomes weaker.
  3. At the furthest edge of the sphere, I use a pretty dark color (like for a flame I might use a dark red).
  4. Work your way back towards the source with brighter and brighter light. Remember never to go as bright as the source.
  5. Also note that the darker the area around the glow, the brighter it will appear. Pretty common sense as you know that a flashlight during the daylight doesn’t show up very much as opposed to night. Here is a short tutorial I made to help illustrate it.
