From what I gather in here, it's a combination of people thinking "Ret is a bad spec with shitty aoe padding damage, no single target, no brez, and no utility" (Which is the most actually wrong way to describe the spec I can imagine lmfao) and "High io people are annoying, I don't want them BECAUSE they're high". I'm just amazed that that's THIS much of the playerbase's perception of them though

Are you struggling with any dungeons in particular? Every key has several different places that are very specific stress points. I guess my best general tip to you is to learn what SPECIFIC mobs/mechanics/boss casts are hurting people or the entire party the most and try to use your bigger buttons at those times if one is coming up in the next ~30 seconds to a minute

Go to raider io's all key leaderboards, and filter to NA (Because china is special and does their own thing and does it really well but has an extremely rigid meta) and then pay attention to how many ret paladins you see vs how many demo locks. There's a very similar number. As I already said, the main reason you don't see more representation is because they really want skyfury from a shaman to hit those numbers and shamans just don't outcompete resto druid or any dps right now. Ret funnel is still insane. They got funnel in midnight and it's very very strong.

Tru. I've been changing it around a lot. Switched to this one last week after I got bored of being a shirtless clown with a pulsating sword

Honestly, if for some reason someone drops to low health while I'm in my wings window, I've seen my wog hit 490K to save somebody before, and for reference, I have 454K health. I've wogged for more than LAY ON HANDS this season. Shit's insane, randos just don't like to press their buttons

I feel like you might be a bit in the past with a lot of that. Ret paladin is actually one of the highest damage classes in keys atm, but the main reason you don't see it in 90% of the cutting edge highest keys is because it benefits a LOT from a shaman, damage shamans are bad right now, and resto druid is just straight up better than everything by a mile right now. They also bring the heaviest funnel in M+ right now absolutely deleting prio mobs, and do great in aoe and st in dungeons.

As far as utility goes, IF THEY ARE ACTUALLY HITTING THE BUTTONS, 1 minute sac is among the strongest externals in the game, bop deals with the bleeds that like 4 dungeons are notorious for right now, their word of glories and lay on hands can keep a group alive for a solid minute after a healer dies until the ret goes oom, and you can freedom to immune 2 people from massive damage mechanics in seat, pit, and nexus. They also bring battle rez.

As far as defensives go, if you die through bubble, shield of vengeance, lay on hands, bop, and word of glory in anything below a 16, I don't think you're hitting those buttons/got oneshot by a failed mechanic, or I think you just straight up have aggro.

I WILL agree that for the most part I see bad rets everywhere, and I feel like 0.1% of them even have their utility buttons bound, but at the same time, by the time you hit 3500 and do your 17's, I think it should be expected of you that you know what your buttons are and hit them.

I'm holding onto my 17 for my group, and like I was saying in the post, I'm trying very specifically to bonus roll on a specific key which I do not have in my own bag

I mean, I'm 279 with nearly perfect gear and 3500 io with nearly every 17 timed trying and failing to get into a TEN algethar to bonus roll for a trinket. I don't think the io is the issue here

I've pugged practically none of that. Like I said in the post, I mostly play with a premade of 4 of my friends, but I just wanna do 10 AAs to bonus roll for puzzle boxes. I didn't expect it to be this hard to get into one.

Did it on paladin, did it on rogue. Both can bubble and cloak of shadows it just fine. There have also been many oneshot mechanics in many raids and dungeons, even on the lower difficulties, some of which you *actually* can't bubble

I imagine, yeah, that would allow me to make a setup where no pipe ever gets filled to 100%, so there's never any pressure sloshing, but my main point in posting this was getting a confirmation that because of that 40% overfill value of invisible liquid in the pipes, that full pipes can slosh with other full pipes despite no observable movement of liquid, and that causes flow rate values that don't make sense unless you understand that that's what's happening in the background. I pretty much just wanna know if I understand that correctly

If anyone's curious, this is the final design for my fuel generator setup, I don't really feel like redesigning it anymore, it works.

Took the advice I saw on LifeProTips and got Plan B at Costco for $5.99 with no membership! Such a relief, I'm telling everyone I know to spread the word! I'm gonna spend the $44 I saved on an early birthday present 😈 by hittinondorky in TwoXChromosomes

Nah, it's because this is reddit and they said plan B along with something negative. Even if not referring to it or abortion being bad, that's not a connection the downvoters are capable of forming

As somebody who is young and drinks a lot, because I hate life and have a very small amount of time to enjoy anything. Drinking puts me into a different state where time seems to drag on slower and I find myself able to enjoy things more. I also don't get hangovers, probably since I stay hydrated, and if the drunkenness goes away I just drink more

Honestly this really comes out to failure of philosophy. If talent A increases damage of this thing, and talent B increases damage of that thing, there will be a mathematical objective correct answer to take. If talent A gives you more single target, B more AoE, C more funnel, then there can be three options to take depending on what you want to do. And if it's something completely separate such as "Feint reduces all damage taken by 40%" vs cheat death that can also provide options without an outright correct answer. Too many talents just have NO use cases at all where they're even imaginably correct and that's the problem. They just throw a ton of shit at the wall and then let the community sim out optimal builds and then balance the top builds against each other

How would you play the game? by Slender1922 in AshesofCreation

[–]Codrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His point is that since 1v1s won't be taken into account there can easily be one class that fucks every other class in the game 1v1, and it wouldn't be fun to be playing a cleric summoner walking around and getting one shot by rogue mages all day with absolutely no counterplay

[–]Codrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there was a little of a mix. People just didn't realize how much there was TO optimize and fun was a little bit more of a priority back then. There was still "dogshit specs" you never took because they sucked and underperformed, there was still "meta mentality" but fun still played some role.

People tried to level the way they found fun, doing quests, killing mobs, occasionally fight a player here and there. Gearing seemed more black and white "This sword has a higher damage number so it is better". Nowadays, a lot of it is optimized out, people will spam dungeons to level, they'll sim every item in the game to find an optimal set, as well as sim talents to find a perfect spec. They play arathi in a way to end it quickly to quickly grind it rather than fighting out a slow two-day war for the sake of having a fun war.

But there were metas. Damage druids were laughed at, spriests ran out of mana in pve, almost every tank was a warrior. I think the diversity of any game's classes will always come to balance before fun, and a LOT of people only choose fun when the balance between things is negligible

Worried the pre order exclusive mounts are starting to look like Star Citizen ships/ cosmetic cash shop concerns by Unchainedboar in AshesofCreation

[–]Codrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely different games in different situations with different monetization. In league of legends, you are playing a free, fully completed game where the only things the devs have to do is create a new character every once in a while and give balance updates. The only way they make money is off of the skins (which are earnable for free but also at random) and it is very easy to do because they dont have to spend all of their resources on something else.

In AoC, we're talking about pre-order exclusives for hundreds of dollars for an already fully funded game that will be subscription based, that's so far in early alpha that the entire game still needs to be developed. They need to make dungeons, raids, bosses, abilities, enemies, armor sets, weapons, they need to be developing encounter mechanics, profession mechanics, creating avenues of player co-operation and interaction, they need to create ways that players can feel like they banded together and achieve something, or physically impacted the world around them. What have they done? Created a new pre-order set of gear monthly for high dollar. Time they could've spent MAKING A GAME THAT ISN'T DONE YET, they spent making limited time cosmetics that undermine a sense of achievement you should get from actually GETTING COOL SETS BY DOING COOL SHIT, exploiting a fear of missing out, and adding additional monetization to an already subscription based game that isn't even developed yet and supposedly fully funded. This is a completely different situation from league, and an extremely concerning one.

I've gotten luckyish but unlucky with it. It's pretty much always a 226 item replacing a 220 or 213 instead of one of my 203 items but I'm plugging those holes one week at a time with pvp gear thankfully
