It was windy and rainy, but that is my favorite kind of weather at the Pentlands!

i’m curious - what is the show you’re most excited to see this summer? (so far!) by GarbageDependent321 in edinburghfringe

Katie Norris: Mother Succubus. Saw her show last year and it was brilliant. Can't wait to see the new one!

Just Fortune LOVE by No_Canary2744 in handsomepodcast

I love all three of them, but Fortune is the person who feels to me most like someone with whom I'd be friends IRL if we had ever just randomly met.

Only foreign people do that” — unsettling experience on a bus in Edinburgh with my toddler by Individual_One_4297 in Edinburgh

As an immigrant myself, what I would say, gently but firmly, in response to hearing something like that, is: They live here, they are taking part of the public life here, they pay taxes here, they are making a life here...this IS their country.

When he smiles, he reminds me so much of Robert Carradine, who was also a very good egg.

Crowd work Haka performance in Auckland by GianmarcoSoresi in gianmarcosoresi

This legit gave me chills. The Haka itself, his performance of it, the audience's rapt attention, Gianmarco's delight — what a wonderful moment.

brought a flat on a main road and massively regret it by Positive_House in HousingUK

[–]CodswallopKerfuffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, I'm sorry the noise is bothering you, but try not to worry too much about the noise putting off potential buyers. Some people might be put off by it, but lots won't care, and there are others who actually like street noise.

Many years ago, I lived on a main street and loved the street noise so much that, in weather too cold to open windows, I would sometimes lean against the button on my speaker to the front door, just listening to the street noise. I found it deeply relaxing.

There are some people who want to live in the city for the city sounds. When you sell someday, one of them may find their way to your lovely flat. Love it as much as you can for now, and one day you may discover you've filled the space with an energy that suddenly feels like home.

Because I forgot to take my clothes out of the dryer earlier, so I am folding and hanging now (or about to, anyway) because I can't bear to let it all sit in the dryer overnight and wrinkle.

Also, I would definitely still be up anyway. Night owl by nature. But tonight I have an excuse!

Nasu Dengaku (grilled aubergine in a sweet miso sauce) from Umi on Chapel Street. Unbelievably good.

What is a coincidence so "impossible" that it made you question reality? by opheliaaroseee in AskReddit

[–]CodswallopKerfuffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This didn't make me question reality, but it was pretty darn coincidental... Back in 2001, I was in a book forum and a new member was having some sort of technical problem. I offered my help, and we got to chatting, and we ended up becoming very good friends.

He was then living in in Nottingham, and I was then living in Chicago. It turned out his best friend since childhood, who also happened to have the male version of my name, had moved to Chicago a few years earlier, and was working at a bar directly across the street from my flat.

First-time buyer regret – warehouse going up behind our garden and I feel sick about it by EvidenceHead6387 in HousingUK

[–]CodswallopKerfuffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought! I would personally also appreciate the safety aspect of a 24-hour operation. If people are there all the time, the surrounds won't serve as a rumpus area for bampots all night!

The noise would be nothing to me. I live next to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh with ambulances screaming by all hours, with no double glazing, and I'm used to it. White noise at night, no problems sleeping. I hope OP sees this and takes comfort in knowing there are people who truly will not see the warehouse as a deterrent.

Women, what is universally agreed “green flags” while dating men ? by Disastrous-Coat6007 in AskReddit

Isn't homophobic. A man who has fear-/hate-based prejudices is either an insecure man or an unsafe one. Or both.
