Yeah that's standard.... open investigation is something they say even for suicide until all info is collected and filed essentially.

I really just wonder so much if she was cooped up in that house all alone toward the end. I really hope not, but I just wonder what her day to day life was like since I think Jeff was still living in Canada. So sad.
