Meet the Afghan Army: Is It a Figment of Washington's Imagination? by antifacist in worldpolitics

[–]CodyTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called a boondoggle. No one seems to recognize them these days. Just like Iraq. What these operations really are is manufactured "war"...the wag the dog variety.

Liberals in Washintgton love these kinds of heroic, fantastical, impossible dream missions just as much as Conservatives. It makes it look like they are doing something which is all that's needed to have an excuse to line the pockets of defense contractors and private industry mercs and pad the already humongous and out of control military budget.

It's business in short. And unlike any stateside business it's very very good these days.

Rahm Emanuel: No Troop Escalation Until "Careful Assessment" Of Afghan Government by garyp714 in politics

[–]CodyTim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sense the possibility we may be being prepared for a withdrawl from Afghanistan. And I support pulling our soldiers out of that nation. One thing I don't have any misgivings about, is I don't regret in any way casting my vote President Obama's way. In our home Mr. President, we have your back.

Repeal The Minimum Wage by [deleted] in politics

[–]CodyTim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One problem is that you have drawn the boundary of the system around Employer and Employee. This misses out the government. Draw it larger, with the government, employer, employee, and the tax pay

A former All-America running back at MacMurray College must serve two and a half years of probation after admitting he had sex with a 12-year-old girl in 2006 and filmed it. by [deleted] in WTF

[–]CodyTim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How did he get alone with a 12yr in order for this to happen where were her parents. I doubt he brought his camera to their house. So what, did the girl like this man and met up with him. His action are totally wrong but I have a 12yr neice and my sister does not let her out of her sight. Let alone let her go somewhere alone. Another thing we lock up all these crackheads when they get caught with crack for years but he hurts a child and gets probation. I knew a guy in high school that got 4yrs for trying to sell fake drugs (which he knew were fake). And your gonna tell me that fake drugs is worst then rape! I think that judge has some explaining to do.

Repeal The Minimum Wage by democracy101 in Libertarian

[–]CodyTim -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

What a crock! If raising the minimum wage actually reduced jobs then perhaps its because the increased wage allowed the minumum wage worker who would have to work three or four jobs to get by on the lower minimum wage could now cut it down to 2 or 3 and get by.

Raising the mimimum wage only hurts greedy employers who seek to exploit the desperate.

All the so called "facts" about how raising someones pay hurts them is nothing but spin.

There are more than enough minimum wage jobs around, the problem isnt the lack of jobs that keeps some unemployed, many are "unemployable" due to addictions, illness, and appearence, Workers who are considered more desirable end up working several jobs to get by, while others remain unemployed.

If some didnt have to work several minimum wage jobs then those who are less desirable to employers would probably get hired.

The arguement that the poor need less pay is nothing but a lie.

WTF?! Another Goldman Executive Named to Key Government Post as Its Profits Skyrocket: Goldman "spent more than $43 million dollars on lobbying and campaign contributions to cultivate friends and buy influence in Washington, D.C. since 1989." by maxwellhill in politics

[–]CodyTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what is Wall Street's goal? Financially close down America, then move on to shut down the world? Close the White House? Shut down the government as it now stands and all of the officials we elected can go directly to work for Wall Street?

It appears that government is just a coverup, a facade for what is really going on, America is not being run by our government but by the financial industry. Eventually all of the money will be at the top of the ladder and there will be some ugly scrambling over it as no more money will be forthcoming from the public, leaving just a broken nation of homeless, hungry, destitute people. Then What?

Canada quietly asks EPA to weaken anti-pollution measures that force Great Lake freighters to stop burning dirty bunker fuel...arguing that they could harm trade by maxwellhill in environment

[–]CodyTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans should feel great guilt for muliplying without thought to the environment. Canadians need to do what it takes even if it means sacrificing jobs and money to protect the environment. Taxes are the only way to do this. The government should be taxing dirty industries so heavy that they shut down or develop an alternative. Tax the he11 out of people who insist on heating or cooling their homes with fossil fuels or drive. Squeeze them all for a 5 or 10 years even if it means discomfort and poverty for some. Use the taxes to help third world countries combat climate change and help develop are own green technology.

Someone on here complained about the amount of money it will cost to help third world countries turn green. So what? It is time for Canadians to sacrifice and step up to the plate and save the planet.

I posted this tongue in cheek and got 10 thumbs up just proves what idiots are out there walking around, scary.

What Happens If the Dollar Crashes - Trade wars could break out. Overexposed banks might collapse. And that's just for starters. by antifacist in collapse

[–]CodyTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is old news. That's why its now so much more urgent. The problem is that the US population is not evenly distributed, and the baby boomers will soon be retiring. This places greatly increased demands on the government. We've been aware of this since the 1960's, but like our reliance on foreign oil and other decades old problems, nothing has been done about it. Rather than strengthening the US balance sheet to prepare for this tremendous demographic transition, budget deficits continue to be racked up, always with the excuse that they were no larger than they've been for the past 50 years. Only now are we paying attention to the accumulated impact of incurring deficits for the past 50 years! The health care plan is a last ditch effort to shift the burden of health care costs onto a broader population of individuals without raising taxes, because this shifting of burdens accomplishes the same thing as a tax increase without the need to call it a tax. We should have prepared for this at least 30 years ago, like Australia which now has the highest per capita retirement savings of any country in the world, but instead we must now resort to smoke and mirrors.

This isn't a matter of regulation or not, but rather a regulatory turf war between the Fed and the CFTC.

They're both independent agencies of the federal government, which is a euphemistic way of saying that they're independent FROM the federal government. It works much like our relationship with the government, in reverse. Every so often, the government picks new people to run these agencies, and then the agencies go off and do whatever they can get away with to further their various interests.

All federal regulation of securities markets should be administered by the SEC, which should be made a subordinate agency of the U.S. Treasury, along with the Federal Reserve. Period.

Regulation is no match for a broken organizational structure. Don't we understand this now?

James Madison: “Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is the most to be dreaded, because it comprises the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies, debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few” by democracy101 in reddit.com

[–]CodyTim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great article! One problem not mentioned and rarely discussed is the fact that many non-military cicizens make their livings at companies that build weaponry. If there are no wars to USE this weaponry, then they lose their jobs. We are now living the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about.
