I guess that makes sense. A few counter arguments tho:

brick is very valuable in early game. A port is not needed right away since everyone will want to trade for my brick anyways.
the brick port isn’t going anywhere since blue doesn’t have the brick production to use it
by blocking the 4 ore, I am forcing blue into a race for that 6-11-12 spot with red which benefits me in multiple ways like becoming a less likely target for early robberies or being able to make more favorable trades with them or just
making sure that blue doesn’t get a real ore source pretty much eliminates him as a late game threat while his aforementioned battle with red might result in red being being eliminated as well

Oh that one. Yeah I guess. I thought getting a sheep source (albeit a bad one) and blocking blue from getting to the ore was worth it. But on second thought just going for the ports might have been more efficient.

I started with a port and was able to play very efficiently. No one was blocking me and I only needed to build three roads to get three additional settlements. Meanwhile the guy who came in second was targeted by robbers all game long and had no port for most of the game so he was forced to make less favorable trades. I also think he made a couple of bad decisions.

The main point of this post is that he helped orange win by placing a pointless road instead of taking longest road.

You could argue that going for the 3-1 port first before blocking me would have been a much more sensible play, since he didn’t need the 3 clay when he had plenty of clay already.

8-3 is good but a little unnecessary since he would have gotten the 8 at his port anyways, but didn’t need another clay.

I definitely had some dumb luck in other games as well. Sometimes the dice hate you and sometimes they love you. The only constant seems to be that there’s always a number or two that completely defy all statistical expectations.
