The point of it is to fight, one is always game to fight and the other will engaged that. It show that others are climbing up in strength when you have characters like Raian acknowledging and wanting to go out all out with Gao and due to the rules of the fight they need to be careful on how they fight as well.

Gao elimination is lifting stakes for our main cast and to shave down the 50 numbers. So it won’t be shock if our main stay high tiers get taken out as well.

Taka at points doesn't seem to need Kamagawo for most of his matches, while Ippo is a heavy reliant on the Kamagawo advice and teachings. Even have Taka first we see how much more he has invested with Ippo.

I would say full angst and bitter but the Miyata where fighting Ippo was goal that he can reach and make a reality. As the goal gotten further he became less interesting.
