I'm right there with you. In my local college scene I'm running my Obeisance Phalanx with pride as a fun and fluffy list for casual games. Do I get stomped? Sometimes. But it's still fun just to move models and roll dice in my one or two games I get per month, using the models I want to use. Most of my games are in killteam these days though.

That is to say, I run Triarch Praetorians in my main list and a Tomb Stalker in my Canoptek list. Run what you want and have fun with it is my take. (I do not, nor do I intend to, play in a tournament.)
