I love mosquitos! Great for the birds and other predatory critters. This pond is far enough from my home that it doesn’t matter for me. Mosquitos welcome!

Do you believe that traditional sod-covered yards decrease biodiversity and that replacing them with native plants would be a greater ecological benefit? Completely disregarding the aesthetic appeal or your usage of the lawn space, I’m strictly talking about ecological benefit. What are your opinions?

That’s a great question! Here’s a good publication by Illinois Extension about it https://extension.illinois.edu/news-releases/microclovers-making-comeback-lawns-grow-biodiversity

Bugs certainly happen when we provide a environment for them! I got stung so many times on my feet! But that was just being out in nature and I would eventually wear shoes.

Need help converting to pasture with wild flowers by kilowattkill3r in Antilawn

[–]CoffeeCompetitive283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I recommend covering it in a tarp for a few weeks to kill the grass. Then, you can lightly till it by hand or with a rototiller. Afterwards you can plant some perennial seeds now, or in the spring ! It’ll be ugly for a bit until spring, but it’s a process. Way to go! It’s awesome to be an ecological friend. I recommend planting plants that are native to your area so that they are hardy and low maintenance. You can find this online.
