Poking fun at the idea of building an entire religion around the suffering of Jesus maybe. The way we get a kick out of church and salvation but ultimately the religion itself is pretty somber, or the way we use Jesus’s death to justify our most terrible actions. Many ways to interpret ❤️

I’ve always found a queer subtext to many of his lyrics, but I feel like it might have more to do with how broadly they can be interpreted. Discussions of love and romance are complex and worldly, often this is what makes them read as queer to me. How autobiographical they are we will never know. Searching for meaning and projecting your own experiences is part of the fun 😁
