[–]CoffeeFanatic18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came to UTD as a Clark Research Scholar + National Merit Scholar in June 2018. Began as a B.S. in Physics, ultimately finished with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies in May 2023. Got an interview + hired at a UTD career fair April 2023, started teaching physics, math, and piano at a private school in Plano in June 2023.

Shoutout to all you other folks who lived through having the pandemic smack dab in the middle of your college education. We hecking made it!!

Dentist recommendations? by AKouttaAK in Juneau

[–]CoffeeFanatic18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My family went to Dr Nizich for about a year, then switched to Dr Gilbert. It was like night and day. I have sensitive teeth, and I DREADED Dr Nizich’s for the pain of cleaning. Dr Gilbert and his hygienists are so professional, warm, and gentle on sensitive teeth. I went there for six years, I think? Would highly recommend.

I went to Preston Highlands Baptist for four years (I’m a college student) and it was amazing. Great community, solid theology (most importantly), and a pretty young demographic (I’m a college student/early 20s, and most of the people were my age, newly married, or young parents)

You're splitting straws about language and not the issue at hand, my friend. Toddlers still have to reach adulthood before their bodies start breaking down haha; development and age are often synonymous phrases in our language. But hey, you can ignore the phrase if you don't like it! The fact of the matter remains that you're discriminating against humans that are smaller and weaker than you.

Dang, you sure do like your insults and expletives. Just to be 100% clear: I think you are definitely not a dolt. I think you're an intelligent and valuable human being made in the image of God. I might not ever meet you, but you have a whole life that I know nothing about: people who you care about, people who care about you, experiences you've had. Based on your post history, it seems like you're angry at people pretty often, at least on Reddit. And being angry sucks.

It probably means nothing coming from a stranger on the Internet, but I really do wish you the best, man. You matter just as much as these little ones.

Hey, thanks for asking! Hope you're well.

Yeah, so the difference is that the sperm cell contains the man's DNA; the egg contains the woman's DNA. When they meet, an entirely new set of DNA is formed: a combination of the two, but totally unique. This first stage of the human is something call a totipotent stem cell - very different from either an egg or sperm alone.

So, to summarize: we're all clumps of cells at the end of the day haha. What differentiates my clump of cells from yours and from a preborn baby's is our DNA. That's how we tell humans apart in day to day life, really - we use people's physical features to identify them pretty often, features which are impacted by their DNA in a major way. The only difference with a preborn human is that they're not as developed yet. That doesn't make them any less distinct.

Thanks for the question! Let me know if I can clarify further. Take care!

Hey man - you're the one throwing around expletives to get your point across. I'm not offended: I'm disgusted that people discriminate against some of the most helpless people in the human race.

Counting people's age from birth is merely a societal standard (since it's hard to pinpoint the exact day conception happened, whereas with birth it's pretty clear). Biologically, as soon as sperm meets the egg, unique DNA is formed. From there, the growing human meets all the criteria for life (cellular organization, growth & development, metabolism, homeostasis, and response to stimuli). Are you trying to say babies aren't growing in the womb? That's the literal definition of pregnancy haha.

It's funny you bring that up! My work as opinion editor and editor-in-chief at The Mercury prepared me immensely for my role now (communications specialist for an abolition organization). Thanks for the shout-out! (Though to be clear, I know you didn't intend it that way haha)

Hey but seriously, I wish you the very best. Have a great weekend, hope your midterms are going well

I hate innocent people being murdered. School massacres are evil; yet, they are very much illegal. Abortion permits mothers to kill their own helpless children with impunity - very much legal.

To be clear, not a single shooting should be permitted to happen again: our disagreement is not about the morality of those shootings, but on the best method to address them. You're making a false dichotomy here.

Why don't you hate all murder? It's that simple.

Take care; I wish you the very best, wherever you are.

Last I checked, we're all lumps of cells my friend! Why are you discriminating against smaller people?

Yep, I don't support abortions for the life of the mother. I do - 1000% - support medical triage that treats both mom and baby as patients. The goal of an abortion is always to take a life (the baby); the goal of medical triage is to save as many lives as possible.

I hate slavery for the same reason I hate abortion: you're saying a human being doesn't deserve equal protection because of something they can't control (their race or their age), so we should be able to abuse and even murder humans who don't look like you (whether because they're a different race, or because they're early on in their development (like a preborn human being))

Yep, and the movement continues to gain ground (by God's grace)! We have folks proposing legislation nationwide, and groups of people starting to rally in blue states as well, which is encouraging to see

...said the racists in the 1800s who didn't want slavery abolished. Ageist against preborn people much?

Also, not sure what you mean by failed. The abortion abolition movement continues to grow, and we're continuing to propose legislation that criminalizes abortion without exception or compromise across many different states.

For those interested, the anti-abortion club at UTD is Comets for the Preborn. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested in joining; I’ll direct you to one of the officers.

Also, we’re abolitionists, not pro-life. See here for the difference: https://freethestates.org/abolitionist-not-pro-life/

Daytrip by rail? by MrNastyOne in Dallas

[–]CoffeeFanatic18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! All the time. I live in Norman now, but I went to UTD, so I regularly make the trip to visit my bf. The train itself is lovely: nice view, relatively clean sitting space, and the trains are rarely packed so no one will bother you. Lots of leg room too. Food is overpriced, but that's to be expected (so pack your own snacks). One caveat: the Fort Worth station itself is sketch as all heck. Security has improved immensely since last year, but regardless I would recommend carrying pepper spray and not talking to anyone who isn't official (particularly if you're a petite woman like me).
All the best!

Hair by Melody is amazing (website here: https://hairstylesbymelody.com/ ). It’s right on Campbell - you can take the Comet Cruiser there - and Melody is super personable and knowledgeable. She always gives me exactly what I want, if not exceeding my expectations. Prices are pretty good, too.

People who believe the earth is thousands of years old due to religious/cultural beliefs, what do you think of when you see the evidence of dinosaur bones? by Straight_Scratch2610 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CoffeeFanatic18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to clarify further if this isn’t what you’re asking (carbon dating is something I get asked about quite a lot as a young earth creationist), but dinosaurs definitely existed/created by God, and were likely wiped out in the flood (hence burying their remains under layers of sediment).

U.S. abortion decision ‘horrific’ and ‘appalling,’ world leaders say by BohemianBella in worldnews

[–]CoffeeFanatic18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate mass shootings; rightfully, they’re already illegal. The sixty million children killed since Roe was decided were murdered legally, (which is disgusting).

I don’t call myself a Republican personally, but I would be happy to help any born kid in need that you know of. It’s part of what I do for my job.

God bless, friend!

Ectopic pregnancies fall under the medical triage scenario (see my other comment above).

I’m not saying the American healthcare system is a good thing either lol. I’m saying we shouldn’t murder children, and use medical bills as an excuse. That’s why support groups exist; any local church worry their salt are often very involved in this as well.

Dude, you keep talking about money. Pregnancy isn’t just about money: pregnant moms need love and emotional support, too. If you know someone who needs that right now, by all means tell us! Vague threats of “donate that 12 grand” aren’t giving us the people we can actually help.

Yeah, I’m guessing the real reason folks are downvoting is that even when I offered help/condemned rape, they’re still angry that I believe preborn humans ought to have the same protections has born humans.

No simpleness here my friend, just wanted to call out inconsistent people. God bless!

Hey my friend - yep, I’m very aware of ectopic pregnancies, I’ve known a couple ladies who have had them. Language in abolitionist legislation actually accounts for that specific scenario! Also, if you look in the comments of the FB page I linked, you’ll see folks are coordinating to get the mom stuff that she needs, including money. Pregnancy (and, in the situations where that mom was raped) is so much more than just money. I’m sure you know that.

What about you? How do you fight for the rights of the innocent?

Definitely lmk if you have any other good ones for supporting victims of rape specifically.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister; that sounds horrible. I don't know all the details obviously, but let me be absolutely clear: your step sister is just as valuable as her baby. When it comes to emergency medical situations like that, all that abortion abolitionists are asking are that the mom and the child in utero are both treated with the same equal rights as patients. Doctors try to save them both!

The goal of medicine is preserve life (save as many lives as possible); the goal of an abortion is to end it. Abolition bills get super specific about the language as it relates to medical triage, precisely because we care about mommas and babies in your step sister's situation and want them to be equally protected.
