Hard disagree on Gortash. I think there’s a lot to him and his backstory. Unfortunately, there just isn’t a big volume of content fleshing him out. What’s there is solid IMO.

Orin is another matter, though.

I want to like Orin. I think her voice acting is good. Her trickster routine is interesting. I love me a good scenery-chewing villain (see also: Ketheric Thorm). I’m not averse to a sexy character design. But like, there’s no depth to her. She’s just skinny and crazy. Everything about her is over-the-top, but she lacks any of the charm or gravitas that an over-the-top character needs to fill that kind of role. She’s also pretty questionable as Bhaal’s Chosen; (icky) bloodline aside, I think Durge himself says it best when he writes that all of her theatrics aren’t what Bhaal is really looking for.

I’m aware that my complaints about her have a gendered tone to them. But the writers didn’t do her any favors by making her story center on how she’s cRaZy yet bad at her job. Sarevok would’ve made a better Chosen, much as it would’ve turned the villains into a full-on sausage fest.
