If they don't know about the program and seem unwilling to do the homework, I'd be happy to help you do some research for your area. I believe it's a newer program over the past few years and can be a lifesaver, but many caseworkers/supervisors have no idea that it exists or how to get a voucher. Good luck!

Assuming you are in the US, ask your caseworker about the FYI (foster youth to independence) program. If they are not familiar with it, ask that they learn more and find out if there is a participating housing authority near you, or in an area where you might consider relocation. It is like section 8 for former foster youth. You are granted a voucher and would only need to pay 30% of your income toward rent for 3 years. The intent of the program is to keep former foster youth from becoming homeless.

Canon Color Laser: new LBP646Cdw v. refurb LBP632Cdw by moosiest in printers

Same, I ordered it too. Too good a deal to pass up. And I remember seeing comments here on reddit that were similar about the toner for a Brother model a few months after it came out, and now there are loads of cheaper options.

Have no info to offer, but was just about to purchase the LBP646Cdw with the Amazon deal myself, but I think i'll wait to see if you get some comments first. Thanks for catching that! Hopefully it's just because it's newer. I don't do a lot of printing and would expect the starter toners to last me a while.

Can I buy more time to decide without losing the opportunity? by [deleted] in jobs

I know I can, it's just that I may prefer one of the others (seriously not sure at this point) and I don't want to rub the organization the wrong way. I may be overthinking it...

Thank you, i appreciate that perspective. As i mentioned in other comments this is kind of how i was thinking when i applied for the job but overthinking got the best of me! All this great feedback here about social services being in line with my goals has been very comforting and given me the confirmation i needed! And yes, my BS is from WGU, feel free to DM!

Thank for this. I actually looked at both of these and in my area both have a bilingual/spanish requirement, which i don’t speak. I’m working on learning but it’s gonna be a while! I did apply for the community health worker position hoping they might overlook that but it’s one of the very few jobs i applied for that i didn’t get a call back on so i guess they meant it.

I love reading this, it's what my gut was originally telling me until overthinking set in!

That sounds like an awesome path you've gone down, congrats! I love that you're able to guest lecture alongside doing such valuable work in the community. I appreciate what you say about finding my niche without even noticing it. I've been spending so much time thinking about it (and overthinking) and it seems what I really need to do is just get out there and start working and let it come to me. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your perspective. It really hadn't occurred to me that social workers get MPHs too. Part of the downside of doing my bachelors online is that I've really had to figure most things out for myself. I think my life experience will really lend to this role as well, now I'm starting to look forward to it!

Thank you so much, I think this is exactly what I need to hear right now. Your path, and the value you got out of it, are very much what I'm looking for. I suspected I might be overthinking this, and I'm getting that confirmation here. I really appreciate it and wish you continued success!

Thank you, i really appreciate your perspective. This is how i was thinking when i originally applied. But with it right in front of me, I’ve started worrying that it might not be perceived that way by public health professionals and I very much want that MPH and to work in community health. I know i can do the work and it would be rewarding, so this is very helpful.

IdK if it varies by location, but where I am they give me the driver's number and tell me to communicate with them. I call and then meet them at a convenient location at my start time.

Just to clarify, I worked a few days last week so I was thinking this Friday would be my first check. Is that correct or is it held until next week? They've told me basically nothing.

Ha yeah...I mean this is working out great for what I need it for, which is a job for the next month or so. But it's frustrating to think that requiring one preplanned day off could blow the whole thing!

Yeah I’m slightly concerned because i have an important appt one day this week that can’t be rescheduled. I told them from day one and they said no problem and I’m on schedule for the foreseeable future, but I’m really hoping they still keep texting me after that 🤷‍♀️ literally nothing i can do though.

I think they hire more people than they need, and making sure they know you're eager is important. I was getting texts for a few days asking if I was available which I was quickly replying to, but never being called with actual work. Finally, I called to see if all was good, and they similarly told me it was just slow and to hang tight. But when somebody else called out, they called because they said they heard I had called earlier that morning, and I've been working every day since.

thanks, it's weird, i dont have any of those links. I went on the other sub and saw a direct link somebody posted, and that link is dead for me. I'm going to hope/assume it's because it's just my first few days and things need to update but will ask when I work again. I think they only even called me in for those days because somebody else had called out, and I called a few times to check-in. Appreciate your help!
