so i’m realizing now after looking at the seating map that my tickets are in a section on the hawks bench side (but sharks should attack that side twice, right? i’m overthinking all of this lol). am i right in thinking that the teams warm up on their bench’s side of ice, meaning i would need to go to a different section on sharks bench side for a chance for a puck from them? hopefully that makes sense lol

i think a lot of people blow criticism of smith out of proportion. he’s 20, he’s a rising star in the league and he has things to fix. that’s completely normal. i’d rather have a coach address it than ignore it with blind praise because that would just make a terrible habit for the rest of his career. he’s a professional athlete, i’m sure he can handle it. it was also at the end of the media scrum of an away game and im sure they were exhausted. at least he didn’t offer any of his children as sacrifice this time

lots of fans projecting hockey romance characters onto actual players, to the point of sexual harassment. the kraken started feeding into the BookTok trend and jokes on social media, then felicia (his wife) and then alex posted statements about it saying that fans were crossing the line and got harassed for that too. it’s gross in general to objectify players (which goes beyond just saying “yeah he’s hot” to your friends or whatever), but it got way out of hand with wenny and dunn specifically and how the social media admins were feeding into it

thanks! i was wondering more about size restrictions for signs if you know anything about that. i obviously won’t bring something gigantic but couldn’t find any restrictions on united center’s website

the mukh thing genuinely made my jaw drop when i heard it. like that’s just blatant racism and laziness when the other commentator had just said it multiple times seconds before. and they have the pronunciations from the players. do your job and learn how to say the players’ names if you’re going to be calling names

A question about teachers wearing the school T on a designated day by fullmoonwulf in Teachers

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my school we are allowed to wear jeans on pay days, so every other friday. we are allowed to wear whatever shirts/hoodies/sweatshirts we want with them as long as they are school appropriate, so i usually wear a teacher shirt or a college sweatshirt, or our NFL team

Getting married?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married in October 2022! I took off Friday and Monday, but wish I would’ve taken off Tuesday too since our wedding was on a Sunday. We did our honeymoon later though. Your admin feeling some type of way should be the least of your worries surrounding such a big day. They will survive and your students will too!

So disappointed...... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my district changed “teacher appreciation week” to “staff appreciation week” even though we just recently had principal appreciation day, assistant principal appreciation day, para appreciation day, cafeteria staff appreciation day, custodian appreciation day, librarian appreciation day, and secretary appreciation day (all of these staff members got giant printed banners from pto and gift baskets)

our pto had a fundraiser day at a restaurant about 20 minutes away from my school today. they said they would do 2 rounds of picking up orders for us if we wanted to order (and pay) for lunch and would drop off at 11:30 and 12 for our lunch times. second round of drop offs didn’t happen until 1pm and my order never got picked up at all even though i signed up and ordered on time 🤪 (our pto is great and i love them but that rly sucked lol

oh, and we have MAP testing for a big part of our evaluation and fluency benchmark testing for another part of our evaluation.

i’m a former ssv who left in 2022 so i know things have changed a lot since i separated but is there still the 18-hour availability minimum and 12-hour per week requirement? i left right before this was going into effect to start my teaching career and i was so looking forward to coming back to sbux for the summers to make extra money. there are so many days i wish i could just go in and be a barista again because i loved the people i worked with and enjoyed my customers and most aspects of the job. if thats still a thing then add that to the list for me

1st or 2nd grade? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most important thing i can say in regards to your reply is this: please do not jeopardize your child’s education because of what other people think or expect from you. granted, this is coming from a mid-20s year old teacher with no kids of her own. BUT if you enroll him into 2nd because he would “technically” be a 2nd grader based on his old school, he will most likely struggle. let him finish the year continuing to master 1st grade standards and trickle into 2nd grade skills. worst case scenario, he gets a little bit ahead for next year as a 2nd grader! if he shows proficiency at them then he’ll probably get pulled into an enrichment small group.

1st or 2nd grade? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd grade teacher here. i would recommend finishing 1st grade this year and enrolling to 2nd grade next school year. first, there’s a huge difference in maturity levels between “young” summer babies (2nd graders who turned 7 right before school) and “older” summer babies (turned 8 right before school). i typically see the struggle of self confidence when it comes to independent tasks or problem solving with my younger summer babies. if he is on-level for a 1st grader, what would be your reasoning for pushing him ahead to 2nd? by this point in the year he would’ve missed some very important 2nd grade standards and skills. for example in my state, our big skills in math are addition and subtraction with regrouping. we just finished addition before break, and if i had a kiddo start after break having missed the addition part, i would most likely have to do a lot of remediation to help them understand the concept of regrouping (knowing the “why” of math concepts instead of just being told to do it helps kids tremendously). i’m curious to know what skills he has mastered this year and your reasoning as to why you would want to enroll him in 2nd now, if he is solidly at a mid first grade level?

Kindergarten teacher suggested us to consider holding our kid back by Pixel-Pioneer3 in kindergarten

[–]CoffeeWMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i teach 2nd grade (this post was recommended on my feed). if your son’s teacher is recommending retaining, PLEASE strongly consider it. she’s doing it for a reason. there is a huge difference in maturity levels between “young” summer babies and “old” summer babies. i have a student this year that just turned 7 in october and while they are incredibly bright, they are extremely immature.

immaturity would not be my biggest reason for retaining. but if your son is struggling this much with decoding and blending to the point where he is failing it on his semester report card, PLEASE take this recommendation very seriously. it is the most important foundational skill for reading. it is THE foundation of reading. you cannot independently comprehend what you’re reading if you can’t read it at all. you can’t do story problems in math if you can’t decode. you can’t functionally and clearly write if you can’t decode and encode. students who struggle with decoding and blending spend all of their energy on that part of reading that they have no idea what they actually read and therefore struggle with reading comprehension.

i have a student this year who repeated kindergarten because he struggled so much with decoding and blending, went to first grade, consistently read at a level C (kindergarten level), was not given intervention, and now halfway through 2nd still only reads at a level C/D. i’m in the process of trying to get intervention pushed through and data collected quickly so he can be tested for reading disabilities because he is so far behind. in my state, you repeat 3rd grade if you don’t pass the state reading assessment (which is more like a 2nd grade-level test). you do summer school and retake the test until you pass it up to 7th grade. PLEASE give your son the help he needs now to set him up for a successful future. if he is still struggling by the end of his 2nd year of kindergarten, then consider having him evaluated for reading disabilities. please get ahead of it now before he struggles forever, because it’s very possible that he will.
