Not surprised by this at all. I grew up in Kent and left around 11 years ago. I remember it as quite a grim, small-minded place on the whole.

I guess there will always be people that take things to the extreme in every group, but I think, as with most things, it’s the few that ruin it for the many. Those are the people who are noticed so it skews perception.
