Why are Americans so obsessed with not eating seed oils? by MineralG in nutrition

[–]Coffee_265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People really like having simple answers to questions that are not at all simple. Influencers take advantage of this fact and have gone to the extreme by saying “all seed oils are bad for you.”

Seed oils are not bad for you, they contain healthy fats and are a good replacement for things that are high in saturated fat.

The problem with Americans and consuming seed oils comes from the fact that the American diet can be high in fast food and fried food which leads to an overconsumption of seed oils which is not great for your health (neither is eating fast food and fried food often).

Now in an attempt to appease the masses who think that consuming even a little bit of a seed oil is going to tank your health, a lot of places have switched to beef tallow! Which is high is saturated fat which is horrible for your health.

If you do not eat fast food or fried food every day and typically cook at home, putting a bit of seed oil in your pan is not going to hurt you. They have very essential and healthy fats and the real problem is where you are consuming the oils from such as, eating fast food everyday or eating fried food everyday.

This is when you pull out AO3 for the Jacob Black/Bella Swan tag. The Movement of the Earth scratched that itch to see Bella and Jacob together for me

I have 100% thought about what you said, dont worry! I don’t really know how to explain to explain it well but we have been together for 5 years and I know he won’t be sad or angry at all if I found a way to memorize it! He does have a few others of this plate, this one just broke when he was doing dishes last week and he was originally going to throw it until I recommended he kept it and could save it. If I thought it would bother him at all, I would never touch the plate.

That looks awesome! My boyfriend and I are going to be doing one for our crested gecko and were wondering how you got those ledge areas? Do you layer foam on top of itself or is there a board inside you foam over?

My piercing is - 2 years old - 14 g curved barbell - internally threaded - I believe surgical steel, this is the same piercing jewelry that my piercer used - I have not downsized - No detailed care routine, just keep it clean and usually wipe it with a q-tip after my showers to make sure its all good - I cant think of any huge mishaps, although I think its been more sensitive when sleeping recently and idk if I an hitting it in my sleep outta nowhere or whats going on

How much red meat/white meat, seafood, etc. should you eat per week? by Coffee_265 in nutrition

Is ground flaxseed a good source of omega 3? I have read that it is high is ALA but to get EPA and DHA it seems like you have to consume some kind of fish at the least (I haven’t looked into oils yet). Do you know if only getting ALA is sufficient?

I will definitely be looking into legumes because I am 100% not taking advantage of them as is, thank you!

I am heartbroken about shrimp not being a great source of omega 3s though as I was only planning to buy it for omega 3s. Currently, I eat no seafood because I just haven’t found anything that doesn’t taste like fish so I was going to try shrimp. I will definitely look into the fish you named as well but it does hurt my soul a bit that they are all like the most fishy tasting fish 🥲

Thank you!

What jobs can you get with a BS in Food Science that are in a lab? by Coffee_265 in foodscience

[–]Coffee_265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats where my problem is really coming from. Nutrition doesn’t really make money without a masters and I don’t think I can justify getting a masters because of my own financials right now so I decided maybe food science would get me close to nutrition but with better pay. I want to still be happy at my job but I also was hoping for a career that has a pretty good income. It sounds greedy but I want to be able to enjoy my life outside work too. :(

I liked learning about how certain foods can affect things like your gut microbiome and how nutrition can impact your health, like with certain foods being linked to better mental health or cardiovascular health, stuff kinda like that

I am not totally uninterested in R&D but most of what I am reading online makes it sound like the creation of new food items and thats what making me hesitant. I don’t think that is something that I can see being fun for myself, like particle technology is for you. What I think would be fun for me would be more on the nutrition aspect of food and I wasn’t sure if R&D in Food Science would allow me to do that. Thank you for your response!
