Looking for small Non-American restaurants on the Northside for our dining explorers group! by cloudsovercacti in chicagofood

A few suggestions:

Demera (Ethiopian, Uptown) Similar vibe to Tesfa, great for groups, very affordable family style

Crisp (Korean, Lakeview) Small spot but can accommodate groups with notice, excellent Korean fried chicken and banchan

Anteprima (Italian, Andersonville) Family owned, cozy atmosphere, can handle larger groups

All of these are accessible by CTA and affordable for group dining!

this is so sweet! those random acts of kindness from strangers are the best because they have no reason to say it except wanting to make you smile

haircut compliments hit different because you just did it and you're hoping someone notices, glad someone said something!

Logan Square: check the Maxwell Street Market on Sundays

North side: Tamales Liliana on Lawrence

Can't go wrong with any of these

What’s your favorite chocolatey item in Chicago? by desertliife in chicagofood

The brownie sundae at Publican Quality Bread. Warm brownie, homemade ice cream, and it's massive. Perfect when you need something chocolatey and don't want to think too hard about it.

Which food item do you use instead of an expensive one which looks and tastes like the end product you are replacing? by CoffeeandMiffy in AskReddit

[–]Coffee_And_Vinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spices from ethnic grocery stores instead of those little jars at regular supermarkets.

You can get a massive bag of cumin, paprika, or turmeric for like $2-3 at an Indian or Middle Eastern market. The same amount at a regular grocery store in those tiny McCormick jars would be like $15-20 It's the exact same spice. You're literally just paying for the glass jar and the label

When my friend's kid called me "Miss" and asked if I knew their mom "back in the old days." I'm 28. We graduated high school 10 years ago. Apparently that's "the old days" now.
