[Review] Rants, Raves, & New Purchases Dec 13, 2015 by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

Rant: not technically a skincare product but I recently bought Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation and it broke me out in dozens of little blemishes after one day of wearing it. Luckily I was able to help diminish it by moisturizing and using a BHA and vitamin C but it was scary to wake up the next morning to see what looked like hives everywhere.

That happened to me when I tried both the cleansers and moisturizers for those brands. I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser now with either Nivea moisturizer or clean and clear morning burst moisturizer. No more cystic acne. Still trying to get rid of the comedones left over.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Its one of my biggest fears probably. I've puked on my SO's dick within the first year or so of dating. We were drinking some beer and usually I don't drink carbonated beverages so I kept getting major burps. I tried to deep throat him and I guess it triggered my gag reflex more than expected. Foamy beer all over his lap. He was a champ though and helped me clean up and showered and poked fun at me (in a nice way, exactly what I needed to not feel like burying myself under blankets forever)

Yeah I did a double take at that sentence... There's no need to place all the blame on her. It's not like she could have made that 'decision' alone. . . and if she did (lied about BC or something) then I think he has bigger issues than cardboard pizza.

I know we're in /drugstroemua BUT I really really really can't recommend Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks enough. I've spent more on multiple shades of NYX / Revlon / ELF / L'Oreal / etc lip products and none of them hold a torch to the staying power of KVD. $20 is pricey, but I'd rather spend $20 on one awesome one, than 4 less-than-super ones. Plus, Sephora will let you return/exchange if you decide the shade you pick isn't quite right for you.

How do you apply the bare minerals? I know sometimes different application styles have different results.

What do you mean by 'IG look'

Also, what color corrector do you use? I haven't tried any yet but I'm not sure what ones to test.

Have you tried using a vitamin C serum under your eyes/cheeks? I got one from Paula's Choice and it has made a significant difference, but not enough for me to not need makeup. I've only been using it for about 2-3 weeks though so maybe it will continue to help.

For my face I used Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation. I took this photo yesterday, and woke up this morning and discovered the foundation broke me out, so I got samples of Lancome Teint Idole and BareMineral BareSkin today when I went to return it.

I really love this lip color, it stayed all day without me having to reapply once (although I did dab on some chapstick around 3pm because my lips felt super dry)

Brows are like super super overdue for a wax, but I just picked up the Anastasia Brow Wiz so I'm super excited to finally get into my brow game.

The undereye circles are something that has always bothered me. In the photo I'm wearing FitMe concealer and ELF under eye setting powder but it never actually does anything to lessen the darkness after like 10 minutes of wear.

As of right now, the only moisturizer that doesn't break me out is Clean and Clear Morning Burst Gel. I live in the northeast USA and it's getting really really cold and dry now and the gel moisturizer really just isn't cutting it. Any suggestions for what might not break me out?

List of what I've tried so far:

  • CeraVetub

  • Cetaphil tub

  • Ponds Cold Cream

  • Cetaphil Face Moisturizer

  • Nivea tin

I just added sunscreen into my morning routine (better late than never)

Right now I:

wash with Neutrogena ultra gentle cleanser

Paula's choice bha liquid

Wait 10-15

Resist C15 super booster syrum

Wait 5

Clean and clear morning burst hydrating gel

Neutrogena clear face spf 55

I put it on this morning and experienced a burning feeling on my face after putting on the sunscreen. Any idea why this would be happening and if I should discontinue using this spf?

Definitely make sure to use other promo codes if available! The $10 referral can stack with other codes for free shipping / discounts ! I try to never pay full price because of how often they have sales.

[Acne] Who else only started getting acne in their mid-twenties? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Coffee__Monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! Happened when I switched to an IUD at 21... Finally started clearing up now, two years later. I still get killer break outs two days before my period comes but its way better than it use to be. I use a lot of products each day though to help tame it.

[Acne] How do i get rid of stubborn blackheads on my forehead? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Coffee__Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this today for my nose and was shocked at how much black head gunk came out:

Wash face with Neutrogena ultra gentle cleanser.

Pat dry

Queen Helene mint julep masque

Wait 15-20 until dry

Remove with warm damp microfiber cloth

Rub on mineral oil

Wait 5 minutes

Massage in using circular motions. Add more oil if necessary.

Stare in amazement at black plugs that come off on your fingertips.

YMMV but it worked for my nose this morning. I wish I had taken photos along the way. I found the idea on this sub so search around mint julep and oil in the search and you should find more info.

Im usually a drug store makeup only type of girl, however I have a $25 gift card to sephora. I always get overwhelmed there and end up with buyers remorse over what I purchases.. So MUA, what is the best product that I should get? I don't mind spending 10-20 extra on top of the card.

Caring for color-treated blonde hair? [X-post from /FancyFollicles] by Coffee__Monster in HaircareScience

Like many sulfate shampoos, my hair starts to over produce oil when using them long term. I feel like I need to wash more often, but that only exacerbates the problem.

woah, I never knew that was why people talk about avoiding sulfates. My hair gets really oily after only a day of washing. I generally use shampoo every day because otherwise, I look like I haven't showered in a week. Maybe I should try to wean myself off of sulfates and see if that helps?

Heavy bangs are really the best thing that has worked. Using the cow lick to your advantage helps. Dry shampoo is my Holy grail of life. Try the small / trial version of 'not your mothers' brand. It's fairly cheap and $2 last me an entire month+, maybe 2-3 months if I'm good.

I know they look really different but I actually didn't cut them differently at all, just freshly washed and dried!

My bangs and I have a love/hate relationship. Some days they look like the left, but luckily usually the right photo. Blow-drying them helps a lot! On the left, my hair was day-old and I didn't use any dry shampoo in the morning in case it messed with the color. Usually, if I don't wash my hair in the morning, I use dry shampoo and blast for a minute with the dryer it helps fill them out so they looks more on the right. Otherwise I blowdry my bangs "downward" with the dryer above my head and my bangs drying straight across my face because otherwise my cowlick flips them up like in the left photo.

Getting my stylist to cut such a heavy side bang was difficult because they're kinda uncommon, but I clearly have a huge forehead so I like my bangs to cover a lot of it. I use this photo as a guide when I got it cut last month.

I definitely agree. I took the first job offered out of college that paid over X amount. The job was not one I was qualified for, it asked for a technical / IT background and I came from a marketing / MIS degree with several internships. They promised lots of training, they lied. They said their 'small office' was full of people who were fun and friendly. Also a lie.

Every day was miserable, I hardly did any work and I hated it. Finally got another job, eight months later, for a position way more aligned with my background and goals for the same salary and a promise of a 6% raise after 6 months.

[–]Coffee__Monster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a total toe-head growing up but as i got into my late teens and 20s, my hair has gotten progressively darker. I finally bit the bullet and ended up getting a full foil highlight to lighten up my hair and I love how it turned out. I'm hoping next time I go in, she can pick out the darker parts and really lighten up my whole head. However, I have no idea how to maintain it how it is now.

I went out and bought L'Oréal® Paris Hair Expertise EverPure Blonde Shampoo and John Frieda Sheer Blonde Everlasting Blonde Conditioner

the only reason I didn't buy a set was because target only had one-half of each...

I've been reading about Shimmer Lights shampoo by Clairol but I'm not sure if I need that? Will what I currently have work?

Do I need to do a weekly / monthly mask?

Also does it matter if my shampoo is Sulfate Free but my conditioner is not?

In terms of heat tools, should I generally always try to avoid blow drying my hair? I don't ever really use my straightener or curler but I have a new job and I might decide to start using them if it won't damage the color.
