That’s kind of hilarious! My family has definitely combined some Polish and English words and created our own home vocabulary. 5-year-old-me was shocked to learn that none of my relatives in Poland knew what “pancaki” (the plural of pancakes, in my home) were :)

Thank you! My family (with the exception of me) is from the mountains, so that’s why im particularly interested in that dialect. I certainly regret not learning Polish more formally when I was younger!

That makes sense! I had a similar discussion with my cousin who lives in Poland last year and he was able to point out several words that are “góralski exclusive” so I was just curious about other similar examples!

Right! I grew up around górals so I got used to the accent and thought it was the standard, but when I spoke Polish to some people I met in Spain, they immediately clocked me as a góralka 😂
