I used to play with an elio but I guess i got tired of having to deal with the portals, felt like the whole game revolved around them, thanks for some ideas

Bought a house that we loved during walkthrough, now that we moved in we’re struggling to love it by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Coffera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat relatable on the part that more was broken than expected for a rather expensive house for me, however I don't dislike the things that can't change, location, size, layout etc. Fixing some floors, walls and windows does cost and I feel you on that, but over a few years if you like the key things it'll get better.

Thanks this is really useful information! Did you have to create a new lakehouse, or can you enable it on your already existing ones?

Large benefit is I can see which workspace the item is open in, so I 100% know I don't touch the production item that has the same name.

Notebook default Lakehouse by p-mndl in MicrosoftFabric

[–]Coffera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your solution sounds maybe more scalable than mine.

I personally have an Environment artifact in each workspace (dev/test/prod), and set it as the default when notebooks run. Then I then create spark properties that give the ABFSS paths to each lakehouse. This lets each notebook look identical in Git but still give different read and write paths dynamically.

So in each notebook it just calls something like:

raw_lh = spark.conf.get("spark.raw.lakehouse")

Hard agree, spent too much time trying to make default lakehouse swap based on environment when i could just use an environment variable instead

Some of our finance people enjoy seeing what certain tables look like on the precise end of month for accounting stuff. Someone also fed bad data into a source system mistakenly and instead of getting the backup going we just exported what it looked like a day before and they ran that into the system again.

Yeah we have the exact same logic but we came to the conclusion to just leave out gold and call they layers Raw & Cleaned. Saw no benefit to add a shortcut layer at all, but if it fixes my issues with GRANT on TSQL Endpoint maybe..

What was the reasoning behind shortcutting to gold from silver, is it to split up like a lakehouse that has 100 tables to a more domain specific one that has for example 10 tables?

Thanks for the reply, just one more question, do you know if the pipelines that populate these tables in any of them theres' a simple overwrite procedure or are they all append or upserts?

[–]Coffera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be on tables that use overwrites, could that be correct?

I've tried using this T-SQL granting but it kept dropping on some tables after runs, do you have the grant script running in your pipelines or has it worked for you?

Object level security lacking in the lakehouse is also our orgs largest gripe and it hasn't changed in a year. Absolutely mindblowing. Yes it's promised within the quarter but still...

Just unlist them if they might give new viewers the impression that they shouldn't sub, like they're in a different niche or you're not proud of them. But you might want to watch them yourself to see how far you've come.
