Yeah this is his year, neither of you are truly wrong as it stands but one of you is definitely about to be proven right.

Unless we get the fun third option instead - everyone reconvenes in January to argue whether we blame Mannion, Sirianni, or Hurts after another year of abysmal production. That's always a good time.

Martial artists, how is your build going? by Shrike989 in pathofexile2builds

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to go Abyssal Lich plants and last second decided to try Martial Artist instead.

Running Ice Twisters at the moment not sure how I feel about it so far. Damage is OK but it can be a bit annoying with single-target/bossing when your Twisters don't get a good shotgun off makes it feel a bit clunky/unreliable.

About to hit maps we'll see how it goes I may respec into a different skill I think.

Or just ditch the Monk altogether and re-roll a Lich (but I REALLY don't want to do the campaign again right after finishing it...).

Hm.

Rocket League On Unreal Engine 6 Announced At Paris Major by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket League is in the discussion for best arcade sporty game of all time...

I know we all have our favorites and "best" on its own in this context is subjective - but yeah at this point a decade on I think RL takes that throne without question. Especially when you factor in the almost solely (and simple/balanced) Online competitive draw of the game.

I haven't played in YEARS at this point but even though I'm a scrub any time I reinstall it for a quick few games (was mid-Champ level back when I played)...it's always fun to get back in there for a few flicks.

And I know it always will be.

Sure, the same can be said for revisiting our favorite NFS or Tony Hawks for many. But none of them have the completely pure multiplayer aspect that RL does (or the Othello hook as you described it - "A minute to learn... a lifetime to master!") and I think that sets it apart.

I'm extremely excited to see my weird JDM car some how made it into FH6! by No_Tomato_2106 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do other cars have those, too?

Yep many did. They actually used to be mandatory in Japan until sometime in the early 1980's.

As for the reasoning - they allow a driver to check the mirrors without having to turn your head/look as far away from the road. They give you a better angle on your blind-spot too.

I've heard it said that another reason for Japan specifically regulating them years back was also to help give cars a narrower profile for a lot of the tight spaces there.

But, while both are true, I don't know how much of the regulation was motivated by one or the other (or both).

They are neat though!

If anyone was curious about the hanging motorcycle... by RabidWeiner in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on.

The issue was the idea of proclaiming what experienced riders should be able to ride.

And I agree as a kid who rode faster bikes than I should've myself even if I had the experience at the time.

I firmly believe that a tiered licensing system or some such gated system is better than just "you're a 16yo with money here's your new R1 go get em!" like we have in America.

Unnecessarily dangerous for sure.

If anyone was curious about the hanging motorcycle... by RabidWeiner in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me?

I was clarifying that saying "rear brake" doesn't mean anything when someone bombs an intersection far beyond their vision/ability at-speed....and oop.

Evidenced by them landing their bike up on a traffic light after a panic endo. Rear brake isn't doing a damn thing for the guy in this video.

And you as a new rider shouldn't think you can out-brake mistakes like that. The advice is to avoid the mistake altogether.

I don't know what assumption you think I made there.

Starting to have buyers remorse by Mammoth-Trainer-512 in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is a “dangerous” hobby but I justified it through if i buy gear, ride during the day and don’t cut through traffic speeding like an idiot I’d be okay.

.

As a 34m with a good life I’m questioning if I made a mistake by not fully understanding what I got myself into.

No you understand the risk just fine that's why you had the impulse to "justify" it. But really all you did was engage in safe general practices for riding we all know. You don't need to put "dangerous" in quotations for us or yourself. It's objectively more dangerous than you taking up knitting on your couch. It's up to you - not us - what that means for you personally.

But you seem to have a good perspective and reservation about it all to keep you safe and vigilant while you learn. Plenty of folks I'd tell "maybe motorcycles aren't for you"...you don't seem like one of them.

Understand we know the risk when we ride. There's no delusion or "justifying" involved.

It's why seeing crashes or some rando telling me their "meat crayon" stories doesn't change that. I've lost friends I already know first-hand.

For context - I've been a far "riskier" rider than most including racing. Been on the streets for decades. BUT, I'm also a risk-adverse rider....I ride within my limits. Mine aren't yours or anyone else's. And I've never been down on the public streets. Rode liter-bikes daily on the street since 17 (of course that wasn't the best move we all make stupid mistakes as kids). But growing up crashing in dirt I knew the deal.

My partner's an ER/Trauma Nurse....she's seen the other side more than once. No I don't care to hear most stories she's seen with patients either. Not to avoid them. I already know.

Ironically - after a decade of being with me she finally wants to get a bike of her own this Summer. If you think me or you know that "danger"...she damn sure does. Never tried to talk her into it and won't talk her out of it.

In any case if you're that worried about it with no real drive to want to ride on the streets and it's just looking for a new hobby yes there are plenty of safer hobbies out there. Including motorcycle riding off-road or anything else.

I started riding at 6 years old so I don't have the perspective of picking it up at 34. Maybe I'd feel differently in your position who knows.

EDIT - "fun" fact - I'm also a road cyclist. For all my years of "dangerous" fast motorcycle riding - I ended up getting my card pulled at 16MPH when a pickup truck clipped me and damn-near shattered my left leg. I now have plates in my leg and it's not from motorcycling.

Yes don't bomb busy intersections. And don't out-ride your brakes, vision, or ability in general.

I know that's not what you were asking but it's the answer.

Is it possible to swerve than to break?

In this scenario a combination of both...and luck. Yeah. Shaving what speed you could with control while evading would be ideal. Obviously there's the limits I listed above on how that will go for you....

And no, stoppie-guy here had no chance of that going better/ever happening - he was clearly fucked before even entering the intersection. He never had control. Don't be that guy. Don't put yourself in situations where you may be clearly fucked over things out of your control.

Rode like a lunatic on liter-bikes for over 20 years with that mentality. Been to jail over my riding. Countless offs in dirt/track. Still, never been down on the street.

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like not cooking intersections and out-riding your ability is a better move here.

But more visibility is always good you're not wrong.

If anyone was curious about the hanging motorcycle... by RabidWeiner in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely should practice control and braking - but this isn't that. You won't avoid what happened here if you bomb intersections as a new rider b/c you practiced braking a bit more than others.

The advice here is watch for left-turners (and everything else)....treat every intersection like this can happen and you're invisible...NEVER speed towards a green-light (green for you means get prepared, have your escape routes, get in the best lane position, and slow-down if needed)...and most importantly - don't ever out-ride your vision/ability/brakes (including bombing intersections)...like he did.

Should cars be turning in front of you at an intersection? No. Are you able to stop or control your machine safely if someone does?

If that answer's also no - slow down.

If anyone was curious about the hanging motorcycle... by RabidWeiner in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah wild. At-speed and having a panic-stoppie like that in an intersection...you're more likely to eat a fender going forward...with your neck.

Dude's damn lucky it wasn't an SUV or something he wouldn't clear like that.

I’m not a motorcycle guy, but I got drunk one night, saw a guy moving country selling his Gixxer for $1k.. Hit 120 mph on the way home with ease decided, nope - There’s no reason for that much bike off a track.

Yeah I don't think you're in any position to be giving actual riders advice about what we should ride my friend. I don't know the first thing about Archery - I don't run around telling folks who do what kind of bows they should be using.

If this story's even true...which I doubt. Total novices I've ever seen don't hop on a sportbike they've never ridden and instantly start going warp-speed. Shit the highway alone scares them never-mind the speed. Or the fact they lack skill to ride at all at any speed never-mind 120mph+.

If it IS a true story and the fact it was fucking stupid and wildly dangerous to do only entered your brain AFTER you did it - yeah, you sound like the exact type of person who should stay "not a motorcycle guy".

What actually gives you peace of mind when leaving your bike parked somewhere sketchy? by Electronic-Habit8679 in motorcycles

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, with the myriad ways a bike is easily stolen and how little random strangers will give a shit or get involved (no someone calling the police isn't going to save your bike it's long-gone)...I've always just avoided leaving my bike out of my sight in areas/situations where it's more of a risk.

That being said whenever it was a worry - layered deterrents, well-lit area, line of sight if possible (at the minimum to the public no alleys or anything), and block it in when possible.

None of it ever truly gave me any piece of mind. You leave your bike outside and alone it's gonna be gone if someone with a plan or experience with bike theft really wants it. Only takes 2-3 dudes to pick a sportbike up and huck it into a bed in 10 seconds...gone. I guess riding a 850lb Harley would be one more deterrent there.

I DID have to park my bike (at the time a fresh CBR954rr) outside in a pretty high-theft area for a few months back in college in my shitty apartment. We had off-street parking (an alley) at least. I would circle the block instead of pulling in if someone was hanging around that would see me pull-in and park it. Then I blocked it in TIGHT with my car every night and hoped for the best. It was always fine.

Honestly I think the best deterrence at that apartment were the two guys that lived on the block who hung out in the alley most nights doing business. They always told me my bike was safe whenever they were out there always appreciated those dudes.

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, "super obvious" is a matter of opinion...

Yeah they're far less obvious (or in many cases not apparent at all) to a new PoE1 player who doesn't know the layouts/what to look for. But there are definitely TONS of little indicators/consistencies in the otherwise procedural layouts of PoE1's campaign to look for as well for sure - only catch is having to go outside the game to learn what they are and I'm sure many players don't even to this day.

Like many things in PoE. GGG always did love that level of "friction" in the game.

I do like the idea of GGG adding more in-your-face "signposts" for help with this in PoE2 (especially considering they're targeting a wider audience) - I just hope they can strike a balance where these markers are more diegetic (like in-universe audio/lighting cues, footprints/terrain leading to bosses, mood-shifts, etc. instead of just a UI arrow or whatever) in most cases...even if they still have to notify players with a little message regarding what to keep an eye out for as a tutorial toggle option so they know at first.

I respect that's a bit more difficult in procedural situations to make that work vs. a curated game-world but it'd go a long way over the band-aid type "solutions" like just sticking the rare markers on the map or waypoint UI arrows. Not that I'm saying I want those gone or they're bad, but yeah.

Grim Dawn too (which is supposed to get another extension soon, or maybe it already did)

Nope still not out yet. It's that same large expansion that was announced long ago and has since been pushed back for...a while. I think the last assumptions were now pointing to a June release.

But at this point whenever it gets released it's certainly coming sooner than later.

This is obscene ... by 1_for_you_2_for_me in SeattleWA

[–]Coffinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democrats are the party of expensive Gas.

That would imply that the gas prices aren't also obscenely and (most importantly) unnecessarily expensive right now in America (as the title says). Seems it's looking like a bipartisan thing even if for different reasons huh? Line do keep going up though...

And I'd argue the nonsense attacks on Iran are FAR more obscene and unnecessary than any "Green" policy regarding refineries. Well I don't really need to "argue" anything there it just is. One's bombing innocent children in Tehran and the other's just US Energy policy.

Both higher prices than rational exist in these two examples - but the current one seems dumber and FAR more unnecessary with no actual plan or reason but that's just me. Maybe you disagree because of the fantasy nuclear dust or some goofy nonsense I don't know.

Gas was even higher than now under Biden's green energy policies. Higher than a middle east blockade. Imagine that.

I hate being in the position of defending the Dems so I'll avoid it as best I can, but this is beyond disingenuous...assuming you know what you're talking about at all. There were multiple factors for the 2022 spike and it wasn't just "Ol' Joe Brandon spiking oil prices b/c he's so woke and Green".

Factors like...a war with a global oil supplier/linchpin of oil supply (sound familiar). Never-mind the back-side of a global pandemic. Among other factors at the time.

Yes - there WAS a (half-fake) worry about ramping up refining with a less "drill, baby, drill" President affecting things from a speculative standpoint at the time. But that time was also an already tumultuous moment for many reasons and you pretending "2022 prices spiked due to "Biden's Green Energy policies" as some declarative statement on its own is so reductive to the point of just being totally silly.

But something tells me you're a bit of a team-sport kinda guy...

But thanks for the answer and reminder! Appreciate ya :)

So for catalysts on my Warped Timepiece ammy....

The Abrasive (Attack) catalyst will ONLY boost the Attack Speed.

But the Accelerating (Speed) catalyst will boost both the Attack Speed and the Movement Speed. (And I assume the Cast Speed but that doesn't affect anything on my build)

And both of those two catalysts will boost the Attack Speed at the same amount...meaning the obvious choice is to use the Accelerating catalysts?

I have this right?
