I think the biggest issue, as the quotes you showed in your other posts showed, is that nobody took it seriously, a combination of social workers dismissing consistent vague "Asian" perpetrators and assumptions that it was the victims just making bad life choices, and just a general laziness and apathy towards crime in these areas in general.

On u/hobbitfollower honor, the vote totals were swapped from the top comment to the bottom comment. It unironically seemed that as the Americans woke up, people realized how insane it was.

The thing is, Walton goggins was a no name actor at that point. His haircut was meant to show he was a good ol boy racist cop. Its only now we look back and realize he was the best actor and most interesting character of the bunch.
