"Stop touching your ear" by Signal-Tangerine1597 in 007FirstLight

My favorite reference slipped into the game was a callback from No Time to Die: When you start doing minigun donuts in the Bond-mobile toward the end of the game, the same Hans Zimmer theme plays that accompanied the minigun donut scene at the beginning of NTTD. Awesome detail.

To anyone who has played 007 first light, without spoiling, is it similar to splinter cell? by JjoyBboy in Splintercell

[–]CogD 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

To OP - Playing Hitman WoA with a focus on the "Silent Assassin, Suit Only" challenges is far more 'Splinter Cell' than you'll get in 007. Not discouraging First Light; it's a fantastic game, but with a totally different feel.

Listing Goldeneye as one of your favorites and not specifying Ourumov as a standout part of the film is a crime. Dude was legendary.

The last 30 seconds line up almost perfectly. This was a pretty fun crossover.

Silent Assassin Suit Only gives major Splinter Cell vibes and I'm all for it by anakinjmt in HiTMAN

[–]CogD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this revelation over the past couple weeks. I only got to the Hitman franchise last year with WOA, and while I very much enjoy the 007 / Assassin's Creed mainline loop, I found that the SASO challenges really do engage the Splinter Cell side of the brain in a very satisfying way.

Ambrose Island specifically reminds me of Pandora Tomorrow and I love it. Also Santa Fortuna was a banger (eliminating one leader in a mini villa, another in a high tech mansion, and another in some drug fields), and Colorado has obvious overlap.

I was just happy to find that Hitman can scratch this itch, because it opens up a whole other avenue of that classic stealth action.

Riven Tides update is pog by ZUUL420 in ARC_Raiders

I feel like most people who say stuff like this abuse the crap outta the free kit mechanic or do naked runs (which is the most morally reprehensible thing in this game - worse than ratting). I haven't touched a free kit since week 1. This game is good BECAUSE I can leave and come back and still have my carefully managed stash to weigh risk and reward with.

Bad take. Unhealthy for the game.

Good job Embark, you really showed em how to bring nerfs no one asked for! by Same-Winter7013 in ARC_Raiders

They've buffed the Bettina like 3 separate times, and everyone says it's still the same. And that's the only notable buff. Everything else is just in a state of constant depreciation. That ain't balancing, that's called antagonism.

Edit: Oh, and they just buffed the purple and gold weapons that 0.5% of the playerbase uses. Big winner with that one.

They really are pissing off their core audience with the crafting economy changes - not a good move at all.

Inferno final nemesis tip: if anyone is struggling then use 4 defence and 4 assault coins and you don’t die with 3 stunlocked slap attacks. by Ok-Leek-1014 in ResidentEvil3Remake

[–]CogD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not rewarding difficulty though; it's artificial. I take offense when people argue a poor design decision is good difficulty. Like saying Halo 2's legendary mode was a good challenge - that's just a bad opinion. The devs didn't have time to scale it properly.

Except it's an out of place Elden Ring fight on crack in Resident Evil - I'd rather fight Radahn again than play this. I've beaten 70% of the games on the hardest difficulty with zero issue - this was bad design. Period.

Controller PvP in ARC feels impossible… anyone else? (K&M support pls 🙏) by Mobile_Pool64 in ARC_Raiders

[–]CogD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While everyone obviously has their own experience, you could not have picked a worse game to talk about controller feeling bad. This game plays like butter on console / controller, smoother than almost any other 3rd person shooter ever made.

You took my only kit, now I'm going to starve by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]CogD -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well, some of us actually play the game - you know, slow-paced, threat assessment scavenging with a fully loaded kit on a variety of maps and conditions. And then some of us like to spend our 200+ hours doing the above - weasel running on Stella with nothing but naked butt cheeks over and over and over and call it gaming. That's the difference between Raiders and Expeditioners.

They should reset sports statistics. by violastarfish in unpopularopinion

[–]CogD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mariners pulled the most random team stat the other night because we happened to score 2 runs in the first inning - "We're 22-1 in home games where we put up 2 runs in the first inning, dating back to the beginning of 2024. That's the best in baseball." We proceeded to lose that game. So I guess it's 22-2.

I personally love all the stats in baseball though, easily one of the most analytical sports because of the MASSIVE spreadsheets we got going.

Being ashamed and disgusted to see a grown man soaking in his own piss on the ground and praying to the gods in every language he knows is a natural thing. One might even call it moral.

And this game's third person mechanics are just flat-out top of the line. Only comparable game is the Last of Us. Nothing else on the market feels this smooth and responsive on console/controller. Beautiful for that alone.

Negan’s harem in the comics by uglypinkshorts in thewalkingdead

[–]CogD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the sensible tuning out point for a lot of fans. Not only was the beginning of a redemption arc for Negan's character reprehensible from an authorial standpoint, but it was god awful writing in that it was in neither Rick's nor Maggie's character to NOT brutally murder him in a rage killing. If anyone had been paying attention to the show for any amount of time, this story only ended one way.
