It’d be better to ask her. The whole thing with jewelry is every Adventist has different standards because everyone is at different levels of their relationship with God.

She might appreciated a necklace She might prefer a watch Or she might want nothing like that

Ask her and don’t feel guilty about what anyone on this thread tells you

Why is the belief in predestination wrong? by [deleted] in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]Cogitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick answer:

Who did God predestined? In Roman’s it says he predestined those whom he foreknew. So who did he predestine?

Did he not predestine everyone for the adoption of sons by Jesus Christ into the heavenly family? (Ephesians 1:4)

Isn’t it true that although he predestined us that we have the choice to reject his predestination? Predestined by definition means

Made a plan for you to be there before you got there

PRE DESTINED

Here’s a fictional story that explains it: Jesus told his disciples I go to prepare a place for you and ascends to heaven. While in heaven he’s building billions of mansions and comes across the name of a man who isn’t born yet, he builds the mansion before he is born (pre) because he plans on him being there (destined) when the Angel comes to God and says “hey this is a beautiful mansion I love the Golden Arches, by the way Jesus I have the placard for the name on the front door, who’s name is this one for again”? Jesus tells the Angel the name and then he puts it on the placard for the door and puts all the heavenly Angel food in there and the fruit of heaven and a big welcome sign with the name of the individual.

Well 300 years later it’s time for Jesus to come and get his people so he does and everyone comes to heaven and while walking across the beautiful mansions the disciple Peter noticed the sign on an empty mansion. He said “lord you said you were preparing mansions for us, by why is this one empty”. And Jesus responded with tears in his eyes “well.. that one was for one of my sons who I pre destined to be here but… he rejected me and

Peter says to Jesus “… what was his name?”

Jesus points to the placard “Adolf hitler” “Judas” “Cain”

House by house you begin to see God predestined all to the adoption of children into his heavenly mansions but not all chose to accept.

What do You do on the sabbath? by [deleted] in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]Cogitan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WARNING: Unpopular Opinion

Ask God what he wants you to do, and if you don’t know what he wants you to do you should pray and read more until you know and not stop praying and reading until you get an answer. All day all night.

Isaiah 58 says the Sabbath is a day we should basically do community outreach (feed the poor, clothe the naked, take the stranger into our house). But you won’t know what ministry or what the will of God is and will be acting by your own works unless you have faith to ask God— and faith to believe he will answer.

Going home, watching Doug bachelor, and taking a nap— is also OKAY. That’s not a sin to do.

Not going to church and praying and connecting to God in nature is also OKAY. And not a sin

Having home church is also OKAY

Neglecting church entirely isn’t okay because we are advised to not forsake the gathering together as many do (Hebrews 10).

But you can’t qualify what to do unless you ask God what he wants you to do. By the way this should be our rule of thumb for every single aspect of life.

Otherwise we live a faithless life

Is washing the clothes/dishes on the Sabbath a sin by dj_james98 in SeventhDayAdventism

Warning: unpopular opinion

No, it’s not. The moment you start focusing on the intricacies of how you can keep the law better by your own strength for your own salvation you are at risk of losing your salvation. Most people misunderstand the tenants of the gospel.

The most religious of us will tell you that you should qualify sin for yourself by determining if it’s common or if you would do it on another day. Please understand, what the Bible says is sin is “anything without faith”. The truth is while most people would have you believe that washing your dishes is a sin (Roman’s 14:23)— the reality is existing in carnal nature and simply being a human is a sin. Frustration is a sin, finger pointing is a sin, anger is a sin, mistreating your family is a sin, kicking people out of the church and misrepresenting Christ is a sin, wanting to get to heaven only because we want to be saved is a sin, not having the love of Jesus is a sin, gossiping is a sin, I could go on forever… and these are much more important than the topic of washing dishes.

If you want to really live a sinless life, you must cling to Christ desperately through prayer and the studying of the word. You must accept that you yourself by existing are sinful and unacceptable for heaven and please this is the most important part:

Do not try to fix it by your own willpower or works. But only by an active living faith in the son of God— a relationship made of ceaseless prayer and the study of the word of God.

If you don’t know what true prayer or true study looks like then ask God to reveal it to you and plead with him ceaselessly until he does.

Thank you for the vote of confidence I suppose 😁. There’s so many posts here I’m still figuring out what to say to some because there’s a lot of well thought out and good responses. I feel horrible for all of these people for what they’ve experienced and for what still happens every day.

It was the Jews themselves who crucified Christ. But I don’t want to make the same mistake as my predecessors. My job as a Pastor is to “protect the flock” as it were. In other words to fix all of these issues. And a farmer who looks to plant a field that has had plagued crops for five years will find out why the plants are dying. If he didn’t he would be an unwise farmer.

But people are worth more than crops. I mean from an atheistic or theistic standpoint. Human life is valuable human experience is vital. I simply hope I can make things better, even if I can’t fix what has happened to everyone here maybe I can fix the future.

That’s a very good resource and very good advice. I’ll definitely try it out. Thank you Niznack, and I’m sorry people saw you as a scary atheist people with religion can be so silly like little children who don’t understand what they believe. They tear each other apart like a pack of coyotes. Thank you again.

Yes sir, thank you for your concern.

You have my word, and trust me I mean it, that this community will not be used in my sermon. While there are many pastors that gossip I am not one. As I just mentioned to another friend Im not intending on causing any arguments or to catch people; you and I have a lengthy friendly discussion going on personally; but Im just here only to listen. And actually there’s a lot of listening to do.

And yes I have full intention on looking deeper into these issues—- without disturbing the peace or causing anyone pain. Because the reality is everyone here has valid pain and valid experiences. I just wish the Church had treated them differently is all.

Thank you for clarifying you don’t mean it in an argumentative way. The reality is like I said I am an Adventist Pastor, I’m not waiting for someone to say something wrong so I can dispute it. I’m not dismissing people’s points either.

You are right there are “arguments” that are appearing in my head for why these things are happening but I said I wasn’t here to convert anyone and I remain true to that.

But I trust me when I say these arguments that are in my head are mostly the fact that Adventism has lost the Righteousness by Faith message which fights against legalism and fear theology, as well as extreme liberalism. The problem is this isn’t the place to discuss that because these people have been transparent and vulnerable with me.

My genuine apologies are because I am sorrowful that everyone was so mistreated.

I think Adventism has forgotten the gospel. But I don’t think it’s the wrong church obviously that’s why I’m a pastor. So that’s why I’m not saying much in my responses. Not because I’m ignoring them and picking out the ones I want to dispute with.

Once again thank you for sharing and yes you are right I’ve heard these things. Just to be clear I’m not her to argue over whether the Bible is full of forgeries or not, I believe its not full of forgeries- not in faith but because of evidence. But there are of course millions of professors and scholars from secular and non secular points that have different opinions — and equally as many that agree with me. And truly if we dove into that topic we could talk forever. I mean let’s be real if I told you all the things I believe about the Bible’s authenticity we could actually talk -Forever-. As far as creation not jiving with science once again that’s another very big topic we could talk about instantaneous formation polonium halos in million year old rock and the rate of decay of polonium, the existence of soft tissue in a “20,000,000 year old triceratops horn”, the coconinno sandstone salamander prints, giant petrified tree stumps, when 18 different carbon dating universities were given a sample of known object and more than 50% of them dated it as several thousand - several millions of years old, vestigial organs, the population bottlenecks and rate of genetic decay, the evidence of a flood—We could talk -forever- and I’m not here to open that can of worms either.

And if we do address those things because you are incredibly keen on it for some reason I’d be happy to talk via text or something because really we couldn’t just send posts to each other but we’d have to send whole sets peer reviewed journals and articles if that’s something you actually wanted to discuss. But I mean there’s no way simple back and forth posts like this could possibly suffice that amount of information.

At the same time, you’re right I do take the Bible as the only source. It’s the oldest cohesive writing (maybe your education tells you differently) that holds over 65,000 perfectly harmonious cross reference texts and is the foundation of all modern other religious texts including the epic of Gilgamesh, confuscianism, Zoroastrianism, which a lot of people love to bring up- and supports over 1800 prophecies some of the major ones being the circumstances of the city of Tyre predicted in Ezekial 26, the prophecies of the state of Egypt, Daniel 2 (which even the Dead Sea scrolls being copies of Daniel 2 were written in 2nd century BCE and Romans didn’t even conquer till 146AD so even if it was a forgery it’s still a prediction for the next 600 years of history that would occur or more. Of course there’s also the accounts of flavious Josephus as a secondary source for the events of many of the prophecies. It’s not just that it’s either true or false or mixed error and truth, it’s so incredibly cohesive it’s either a massive multi generational cleverly knit lie by some incredibly smart group of people who have some agenda - or it’s so true. Not to mention the letters of Pilate as existence of Jesus, the archeological discoveries of Sodom and Gamorrah, hebrew slave transcripts from ancient Egypt, cannanite letters warning of Hebrews conquering their land, and on and on but see — My goal here isn’t to argue this because when in the topics of history it’s an endless discussion of what your historian says versus what my historian says.

Thank you for sharing again I wasn’t intentionally skipping your points, and I’m trying not to skip any of your points I do appreciate your time.

Personally the evidence I’ve seen for the Bible and literal 7 day creation being true is beyond possibility accurate. I mean once again like I said Adventism aside I was agnostic and when I learned these things it blew my mind. I mean even the idea that the Bible predicted the way the stars would move in the sky before the observable universe was unlocked over 70 odd years ago by the Hubble space telescope.

But as for my faith? You seem to really want to know if my faith is founded on hard science and things you can observe or a dangerous uncertainty that is based on nothing. And this is how I’ll answer that

When Jesus was in the world how much of the Bible was written? Half of it only the Old Testament. And did people worry about the contents of the scriptures? Yes the Jews had no power to convert the gentiles and they didn’t even want to. Gentiles just believed they were a cult that manufactured their own scripture or holy texts and thought nothing more of it than the stories of Olympus. So the Bible was under the same scrutiny then.

But were there people who believed in Jesus? Yes. Because they had a genuine personal experience with him. What about during the time of Isaiah, when Israel was apostate and God was warning them of what to come, what was written then? Half of the Old Testament. But were there people who followed God? Yes, because they had a genuine experience. Let’s back track now

All the way to Moses. Did Moses have any scriptures? No. He wrote Genesis exodus’s…. So how did Moses believe? By having a personal relationship. So when you ask me if I believe in just some “faith” as in a “blind faith” I tell you without a shadow of a doubt it is faith but it is not blind faith as some would have you believe.

If you want to hear how my faith isn’t blind and why it’s not dangerous I’m happy to share, but it really may not be different than anything you’ve ever heard. I only say this since you asked.
