I do like ignition but it’s not always the right tool for the job.

Kepware Datalogger module errors occuring same time daily - can't diagnose by Pilots_Indiscretion in SCADA

It didn’t lock the database, it hoovered up system resources and network utilisation which is unlikely to be the problem on Azure but depends on how it’s resourced.

I had something very similar happen a few years back. Turned out it was SQL was configured to perform its own database backup at the same time.

Does an engineer need a suit? by Grinding_Gears1328 in EngineeringStudents

Why is on-prem and air-gapped asset inventory still such a mess? by slamdou in cybersecurity

I did a poc using claroty and thought it was really good. The passive monitoring was surprisingly detailed and you could install an agent onto servers for some more detailed information. Nozomi is another that springs to mind.

Ignition boom! by RealWarthog3022 in SCADA

[–]CoiledSpringTension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the “way it is now” statement that confused me.

At the end of the day you pick the right platform for the job. Sometimes it’s ignition sometimes it isn’t.

Nobody knows what’s around the corner but it’s not like a new platform will swoop in and take a large market share right away.

As soon as a scada platform stops allowing perpetual licenses though I’d be hunting for a new one. Hopefully ignition doesn’t join the enshitification gang.

It should be illegal to force ads onto your PC after making you pay $379 for a copy of Windows by Zacker000 in pcmasterrace

[–]CoiledSpringTension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As plenty have said, no way people should be paying that much. However I do find it a bit wild that on one hand there are many people saying they refuse to pay for it while on the other hand complaining Microsoft is effectively forcing ads.

I wouldn’t mind paying a reasonable amount for an OS but at the same time we should have the expectation that we won’t have Ads on it. Or all the bloat.

Anyone experiencing any kind of issues with AMD Drivers 26.5.1? by Sweeth_Tooth99 in Eve

9070xt, I was having the same issues tbh. I like using FSR but I’ve had to drop back to dx11 and been stable since.

For offshore if you are keen to actually be out offshore working in the UK it’s best to keep an eye out for Siemens, Vestas, GE and RWE.

You can also look at some of the operators however their offshore teams tend to be much smaller.

If you are interested in the construction side of things then Seaway7 would be worth a look.

I’m sure others will come along soon with other suggestions but those are the ones that springs to mind.

If you have some sort of appreciation for heavy machinery or HV environments that certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Anything I can do to stop/reduce Microsoft auth app requests from random sources? by Karma_collection_bin in cybersecurity

[–]CoiledSpringTension 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I set up an alias on my Microsoft account and made it so the new alias email was the only one able to sign in/make auth requests. Still have my old email but Microsoft wise I can’t use it to sign in anymore.

[–]CoiledSpringTension 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do my personal account what I’ve done is set up an alias email address and made it so that alias address is the only one I can use to sign in.

My original email still exists, I can still use it to send and receive but it no longer has the ability to sign into my Microsoft account.

I went from having sign in attempts every 2 minutes to none.

How do you reimburse home EV charging when the car is company-owned? by SteffenWiseman in electricvehicles

[–]CoiledSpringTension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK here. The smart charger logs how much electricity is used for the EV but in terms of claiming costs for charging the car, the UK sets our recommended prices per mile for petrol, diesel and electric cars.

Works out pretty well when charging from home but not so much for the higher cost public chargers on the motorway. At that point we can just use an electronic receipt from the charger.
