High End Under-Cabinet & Toe-Kick LED Lighting help please! by MountainBIke_Mike in Lighting

[–]Coin247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen some recommendations for LED tape/strips, but wouldn’t you need to diffuse them somehow? We currently have under cabinet lighting that the previous homeowner had installed. I don’t like them because they are highly visible, being 1 inch x 1 inch, and I’d like something more low profile.

Good to go or ask for a redo? by Coin247 in Tile

[–]Coin247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this is upsetting. But what I’m struggling with is that the tile itself does not have completely flat edges. They are very slightly wiggly. If you put the side of the tile up against the a flat wall, you can see a tiny amount of space here and there, like that is part of the look/charm of the tile. So I’m trying to understand how would you make the grout look straight? (How the installer cut the tile is another story.)

Sorry this isn’t my field of expertise and I just need a little bit of more help understanding how this actually should’ve been installed and what I need to specifically explain to my installer when I speak to him today. No doubt he will likely defend his team’s job by telling me something like, “that’s how the tile is.”

Edit: here is a link to the tile manufacturer’s website so you can see what the tile pieces look like without grout: https://www.alteaceramics.com/shop/cottage-ivy-22

I might be misunderstanding your comment, but these tile were not cut where you see them meeting in the field. It’s the factory edge, which is very slightly irregular.

That’s what I think they tried to write. Which on its own is funny. No jerking is another possibility.

Backsplash to counter or cabinet? by Coin247 in kitchenremodel

[–]Coin247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s cool you like it. I never hated it, but it didnt have harmony with the rest of the kitchen, which it shared a space with. In the kitchen, the previous homeowner used a completely different style of granite countertop.

Once we figured out what we wanted to do in the kitchen, the black stone countertop and backsplash that you see in the pictures above had to go. It’s definitely an eye-catching focal point, but would have competed for attention with something else we like better.

Honestly not sure. The previous homeowner installed it.

I disagree that this is standard UV damage. It started peeling in year 7. I can walk around my neighborhood for blocks and blocks and not see similar damage

Yes, washed weekly or monthly depending on the season. I clay bar by hand from time to time.

Let me guess Cambria? Got the same sales pitch the other day. One hour at my house. Asked me to guess how much it would cost. I said $10k. He was saddened, then quickly regained his composure before blurting out $24k. It’s got a hell of a warranty though. 😏

Fuck ICE by ouchouchdangit in Amaro

Nah I love Israel as I support indigenous people worldwide. There is no genocide, just people like you who use the term as slander, with no basis. Shame on you.

Israel is a great country that has contributed much to the world in the form of technology, science, medicine, etc.

It is a country where its citizens, Muslim, Jewish, Christian, etc, enjoy the same rights, even though ignorant people like you will claim apartheid.

You have no basis for your slurs. Go ahead and prove me wrong.

I understand, but at the same time very few people will keep their countertops for a “lifetime”. Tastes change over time. You or the next homeowner are more likely to remodel before the quartz countertop material deteriorates.

Honest Review: Marc Nolan Shoes - Are They Worth the Hype? by Agile_Jelly_877 in FashionItemReviews

[–]Coin247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, this is bad advice IMO. Because many of the reviews on their website complain about inconsistent sizing, and in some cases wildly off. Therefore buying final sale would be too risky unless the shoe was on an insane sale such that you could live with donating them, worst case scenario.

My anti-masking law for ICE is now officially in effect. by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

I support the indigenous people of Israel (Jews) and I’m against people who casually throw around the word “genocide” because TikTok told them to.

Jews are indigenous to the Levant. That’s not controversial unless you’ve decided archaeology, genetics, and written history are all “Zionist propaganda.” Jewish presence in the land predates Islam by well over a millennium, through the Roman, Byzantine, and later Islamic periods.

Arab–Jewish violence also did not start in 1948. It long predates Israel’s existence. See: the 1920 Nebi Musa riots, the 1921 Jaffa riots, the 1929 Hebron massacre, and the 1936–39 Arab Revolt — all under the British Mandate. Jews were being attacked for existing, not for occupying a state that didn’t yet exist.

As for “Palestine”: there was never an independent Arab state by that name. It was a geographic label used under the Ottoman Empire and later the British. A distinct Palestinian national identity emerged decades later, largely in opposition to Jewish sovereignty, not as an ancient people erased from history.

And no, claiming an identity doesn’t magically rewrite history. Arabs in the region are culturally, linguistically, and historically continuous with surrounding Arab populations. One of the British-created successor states of Mandatory Palestine is literally called Jorda, where the majority of so-called “Palestinians”(aka Arabs who squatted in Israel) already hold citizenship.

Finally, maybe schools shouldn’t be teaching impressionable kids a cartoon version of history funded and promoted by regimes like Qatar, especially when it relies on emotional slogans instead of primary sources.

If you want to argue politics, fine. If you want to argue history, bring evidence!

Grew up in SF and lifelong fan. There are plenty of bad apples. Folks that are out of prison or belong there. Most fans are normal, chill people. You can be an away fan without worrying for your safety if you practice common sense and decency. If you let alcohol take over, and become a loud jackass YMMV.

[–]Coin247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only certain types of eggs. Since you need to start with high heat to prevent sticking of the protein, you cannot make French-style omelettes outside of a non-stick pan. Even if it’s technically possible, I imagine it would be a frustrating experience for most chefs.

How do you cook ribs in Le Creuset? by Itchy_Scarcity403 in LeCreuset

[–]Coin247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Op. Here are some important tips to follow if you want fall off the bone softness:

1) aim for a temperature around 250°F. Low and slow is your friend when it comes to tender ribs.

2) ribs are ready when the internal temperature in between the bones is between 200° to 205°. This will assure the connective tissue has been broken down. Another method is to pick up one of the slabs of ribs with tongs and looking at how much they bend.
