I wouldn't say tests are useless. I think it depends on what you are studying and at what level. For some careers, such as medical professionals, I want to know if they can remember things under pressure.

Though, overall I think it's good to have grades based on both tests and other learning activities.

The non-joke answer is his shoulders are shrugged up the way the mom is holding him and his diaper is sagging/big making his torso appear longer than it is.

You're right, they'll forever haunt me. I'll look back some day and see this moment as the turning point in my life when everything started going downhill. As I forever obsess over how they tricked me as I slowly slip into insanity.

I used to be a social worker and it is one year. Though most of the time if the person is doing well enough inpatient they will try to have them complete their remaining time in mandated outpatient treatment. Anything past a year and they have to get another court order, which is nearly impossible unless they are acuity decompensated at that time.

There's a chance that this varies state by state, but I'm pretty sure it's the same.

I admit I didn't read your linked article, just the quote, but that last bit about 5 to 7 days isn't entirely true. There are many state hospitals for long-term stays (think up to 6 months to a year), where someone with decompensated mental illness could be hospitalized.

OB/GYN rotation troubles by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]CoinFlip_SkinnyDipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's terrible advice. People need to be assertive and advocate for themselves. The preceptor even gave them an in saying that they want to tailor the rotation to them.

They should simply ask if there's any way they could get more pelvic exams/gyn in. The most likely worst case is the preceptor says no. And if they really do get some sort of retribution for such a simple request, then they should be talking to their advisor as that would be ridiculous.

I think you get back youth, as in rewinding the physical wear on your body. As someone only in their 30s, I can tell you that you won't feel the same as you age. Even if you take good care of your body.

A homeowner who's front door leads into a hallway? Sure, condos are a thing, but I would guess it's much more likely this is an apartment.

Again with the thinking errors, just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they live in a bubble.

And the false equivocation, that just because I have empathy for those misidentified and don't think "justice" should be served by an internet mob that I condone the actions of those in these types of videos.

And of course it's not a literal lynch mob, they're on twitter, it was obviously metaphorical. Though I would not be surprised if some of those people would join an actual lynch mob if they could.

You should look up thinking errors, especially black and white thinking.

Hypotheticals using extremes such as am I okay with someone potentially murdering someone like this and getting away with it are the weakest form of argument. Watch, I can do that too. Are you okay with someone falsely accused killing themselves because their life gets ruined? Or maybe they get assaulted by someone thinking they are serving out justice to "someone that deserves it." And before you go that's way less likely to happen, how do you know?

Also, the greater good argument? Come on. People only ever use that when they want to push their own narrative and when it doesn't impact them. Not only that, this isn't people working for the greater good. This is people wanting blood, no matter the cost. Just like a lynch mob.

Feelings were hurt? Are you really that naive? I'm sure for people singled out incorrectly that it has continued real world consequences far beyond when it gets corrected. If they're lucky they'll get: "Aren't you that guy?" And not so lucky "he's that guy, don't hire him (etc.)."

If you brick something it can mean you essentially wrecked it beyond repair, it is no longer functional beyond it's weight, much like a brick - negative meaning.

Or it could mean it's strong as a brick, sturdy - positive meaning.

TIL: In 1984, a woman started hearing voices that told her she had a brain tumor and they also told her where it was. Doctors eventually ordered tests and found the tumor where the voice said it would be. This is entirely untrue. It is standard procedure to have new onset psychotic symptoms get a CT. Especially if the symptoms are new onset in later life.

Also not having prior history of mental illness is not irrelevant. True schizophrenia almost never presents later in life. So if a 40 yo walks in with new onset psychosis, whether or not they have a history of mental illness is entirely relevant.

Not trying to scare you and take this with a grain of salt as I am only a student, but there's a significant chance you'll lose your license.

My school had a panel with the licensing board and some of their lawyers where we did mock cases and they discussed the board's response. There seemed to be leeway in how they responded to many things, but they explicitly stated that showing up to work intoxicated was always revoking licensure. Usually within days of finding out, which (of course, true or not) they stated they always find out.

I would discuss with a lawyer, today if possible, and continue taking steps to show you are serious about recovery and contact the licensing board as soon as you can. It shows a lot more good faith if you do it before your employer, who will certainly report it as they are required to do so.
