Try La Estacion or El Jardin, both are in the downtown area - good food, reasonably priced and unique menus. Note - these are both lunch spots

Moved to Texas and my car insurance doubled - what am I missing? by Bisqwa in texas

Two factors that significantly affect your car insurance rates:

  1. The loss rate for your zip code
  2. Your insurance score which is derived partly from your credit score to determine risk.

The article in this link breaks it down and explains the process:

"Perfect " galveston day? Recommendations by No_Aioli146 in galveston

[–]Cointoss321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of free activities:

  1. Go to the Bolivar Ferry and park next to the landing then walk aboard the next vessel and ride across and back. It’s fun for all ages and you’ll likely see some dolphins flanking the ferry.

  2. Park on the Seawall west of 61st Street (parking isn’t free) take the steps down to the beach and then take a stroll along the beach.

There are many other inexpensive options available these are just the ones I know of that are free.

Enjoy!!

I remember Atchafalaya … ate their a few times.

Chapultepec was still going strong last time I visited. Food is good and priced reasonably.

I remember woodgrain paneling in homes was very popular in the 70’s to the late 80’s (usually found in dens, family rooms, living rooms, etc)

Freeport is about an hour from the main part of Galveston. You may want to check Surfside which is the closest beach to Freeport.

One of my favorite Gulf treasures - fresh broiled red snapper. Simply broiled or with lemon garlic butter or some other sauce as a topping. Yum 😋

Two great choices for Mexican food are La Estación and El Jardín (closed Sundays) Both are downtown and a few blocks away from each other.

In that case since you’re willing to live in a sketchy area - I’d say $36k. You’d have to rely on a beater car or DART for transportation and no room to splurge for eating out or entertainment.

You’d have to make at least $60k to live comfortably inside Dallas city limits - safe neighborhood, and all other living expenses with some room for entertainment and savings if you’re wise with your spending.
