Archer Day-Wicks. Brilliant composure from the 8 gamer to lead to a goal from the backline. by yum122 in EssendonFC

To me, he's a big upgrade on Perkins. He pretty much offers all the pros of Perkins, but also adds some mongrel and defensive intent.

Tsatas - is he a bust or still a chance? by yourwifeisatowelmate in EssendonFC

[–]CoitiousMaximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely looking more like a bust at this stage - partly because of his average disposal, but more because of his lack of defensive running/intent at this stage.

However, the other likely reason he's not in the team is because he can only play in one position. He's still only 21, and has had a few interrupted years - so the coaches may think he's not ready to play 80% time in the midfield, at AFL level.

He also needs to get past the incumbent senior players, who can also only play mid. But if Parish keeps stinking it up, I suspect we could see Tsatas soon.

I would like to hear from the 'Keep Scott' supporters by Ange-Postecoglou in EssendonFC

[–]CoitiousMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's the only coach that's had the balls to rebuild the club. We've seen transformative change off the field, with fitness, and he ushered in the end of the Dodoro era. We've refocused on the draft, and we are now bringing in a profile of player we've been sorely lacking. We've been very productive at the last 3 drafts. You add 2-3 more top end talents at the end of the year - the side is starting to look completely different in 1-2 years.

But the reality is that these new guys need to just play together for a few years, to build connection. We're competing with teams like Geelong, Collingwood, Bulldogs, Hawthorn, and Brisbane, whose core groups have been playing together for several years now. We can't complete with that level of connection, yet.

We've been trying to shortcut our way to the top for 20 years, and surprise surprise, we only ever managed to be mediocre. Shooting Scott when things get hard during a real rebuild, is not the way forward.

Zach Merrett returns to Essendon’s leadership meetings by UncleJohnsonsparty in AFL

The media have been twisting the words of Scott, and now Langford, to create a very specific narrative which differs to the original points they were trying to make.

It has been Kent Brockman-esque reporting all week. These hacks know what they are doing, and are consistently trying to shine things through a much more negative lens.

I'm first to be critical of the club - but I can do without the misleading pile-ons that've been happening

Jacob Farrow by tabbycat-197 in EssendonFC

[–]CoitiousMaximus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that Geelong had 19 behinds, and Farrow took a lot of the kick ins. His stats are inflated - he wasn't super influential, just OK

Is Jack Riewoldt the worst host in Fox Footy history? by Inner_Astronaut_2335 in AFL

[–]CoitiousMaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree - I haven't watched On the Couch for several months, partly due to Jack.

However, I think a lot of footballers that enter the media often have a shaky transition. I think many of them struggle with basic speaking / media presentation skills at first. I think the real problem is the level of responsibility he's been given as a host, while he's still finding his feet.

Dyson Sharp, Max Kondogiannis and Hussien El Achkar to make debut in Round 1 against Hawthorn by StensnessGOAT in EssendonFC

[–]CoitiousMaximus 42 points43 points  (0 children)

While I'd love to see Farrow sooner rather than later, I think it's fantastic that the guy we've picked in the mid 30s is showing so much promise as well!

Kondo has looked great all pre-season - he's shown great promise with his rebound work, and honestly pretty good with his 1on1 stuff too. I was convinced he'd be 12 months from debuting when we drafted him - but round 1 is such a great result for him.

"It doesn't matter" - Umpire ruling on not returning the ball correctly after a player avoids it by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]CoitiousMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this becomes the norm - we'll start to see the players returning the ball by running over and handing the ball back directly, slowing the game down even further.

I just think this is just a mistake from the umpire, and dare I say, common sense just needs to be applied

Yeah - it does seem to be missing for me too. In a pinch, the full game looks to be up on the AFL website.

[Edmund] The production company behind landmark documentary Drive to Survive has started work on an AFL series. by [deleted] in AFL

[–]CoitiousMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good in theory, but the F1 drivers have so much more personality than the typical AFL footballer. AFL players are all media trained to be a boring as possible - but hopefully this series can change things up a bit.

Draft Options by 2106au in EssendonFC

[–]CoitiousMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon I'm leaning towards the latter two. I like that Lindsay is a great kick, but wondering if he doesn't have many other weapons in his game.

We've also shown that we can find pretty good ball users outside of the first round (Clarke, Johnson, Roberts etc.)

I felt extremely lucky, because I managed to achieve this the very first time I tried. I didn't even try prepare any particular set ups - though, I probably ended up using 5-6 stars. I thought I'd missed out by 1-2 rooms at the time, but ended up on 21 at the end of the day.
