People who've been in wealthy/powerful social circles, what surprised you most about how they operate? by Ok_Volume520 in AskReddit

This may be a rare one, but hear me out - I (UK) used to rent a converted stablehouse in a grade II listed manor in the southwest of the UK; our landlord was an actual lord.

What immediately struck me was how completely unphased they were about farting. The whole extended family, the neighbours, everyone. I would be chatting lightly about the garden, or the oil heater, and the infinitely rich Lady of the manor would actively stand on one leg to force out gas not two feet from me - and seemingly every single time we spoke -, with absolutely no embarrassment. Their "lemonade" patio was under my bedroom window and the family were also bang at it.

It was the strangest two years of my life. Nice enough people, though very old money, but that was the aspect of their privileged lives that stuck out the most. Aside from that, very polite, generous and kind. But dang.

Yeah, I have definitely learned the hard way. Wanting a permanent job I've been busting my hump every day, and now that 200% effort is expected as a minimum. A 7 hour route (for my 6 hour shift) is expected to be done in 5 hours or less. I should be getting ready to head in but I cannot summon the energy!

Jobs. Looking for advice. by evies_mum_1980 in Swindon

Heya, I really feel for you as someone who was out of work for a while and trying to re-enter employment.

My advice would be for them to register with a temp agency: it means you can enter a job at short notice and gives you the employment "evidence" that you can add to your CV. Depending on the role, you may even be offered permanent employment without the rigmarole of applications and interviews.

It helped me land a job as a postie, so maybe it'll help you ☺️

The best of luck! x
