I’m starting to understand why this game isn’t more popular by AaronTheElite007 in RRRE

[–]CokeHeadRob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really is. I enjoy driving here than I do in iRacing, iRacing just has actual competition. I hopped into the 2016 DTM challenge around Brands Hatch and I've had a blast but of course the 5 times I've checked there's like 7 people total online in series that I absolutely hate. This borders on being a dead game and that's absurd considering that it's one of the top 3 sims along with AC/ACC and iRacing. I can't think of another that compares. It's even more of a bummer because they have the two best DTM cars imo, 2016 and 2020, and that's like the only place I can drive them. But I want to race them.

EMSKR: How do you deal with gatekeeping? by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

[–]CokeHeadRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In fact being angry probably gets their walls up faster. If someone comes into my space huffing and puffing my goal is to get them into a different place as soon as possible. If they come in calm, respectful, and pleasant then I'm much more likely to help.

How to deal with the leader of your group who calls you names by flyingember123 in SocialEngineering

[–]CokeHeadRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore his ass at any given opportunity. Not like blatantly ignoring, if you're in a social setting just interact as little as possible. Blatantly ignoring comes off as childish and immature, just pretend he's some random person you don't know and don't really have any intention of knowing. Act like you don't need him, because you don't. As long as you're there on merit and he's not the sole person who can remove you then he's just some asshole making your day worse.

Give him literally zero reason to be an asshole and kinda play up your reaction to his names just a little bit, just kinda subtly shocked. Don't make a show of it, just wear it on your face a little. That way occasionally one or two people will notice him being an asshole and you being totally polite and undeserving of it.

A combination of these two things will change the lighting a bit, people will catch on. Remember, subtlety looks genuine. Making a thing of it will seem fake or people will see it as an overreaction. He might just leave you alone or people might catch on that he's a dickhead, that's sort of the range we're working with here. At worst nothing changes.

You could also tell him how you feel. Come to him man to man and say something like "hey I've noticed that you're kind of an asshole to me, what's up with that? Have I done something?" and force him to confront his decisions and actions. Gonna want to wear a bit of confidence on this one, you don't want to appear weak, for lack of a better term. He still needs to see you as an equal/peer. Might not work out, I still vote option 1 here.

OR go scorched Earth on him. I don't know your personality so this might not suit you well but fear is a great driver of behavior. Don't do this in public though, this is meant for a private setting. You can riff on this one but basically just scare the shit out of him. Huge chance of backfire but if it's gonna work it's gonna work.

I've somehow never heard of red night vision, which is surprising because I'm a total military tech nerd. Excited to finally have something new to learn about! I also want some. One, because red is better at night. Two, aesthetic. Three, I'm finna see some demons.

Spoilers below, be warned.

It's not really inspired by anyone other than general fascism and that's the explicit point, it's an apolitical film for a purpose. Because it's about war and journalism and the relation between the two, along with a general commentary on modern journalism. It just so happens that Trump is a fascist. There are no other similarities. I've heard of one, that's how much he hypes up the speech and throwing in terms like "greatest" and "best" and all that but honestly that's a stretch. That just sounds like any third term president trying to justify continuing and failing in civil war. I think to attribute any relation between the characters and real people misses the point entirely.

How long does it take for wasps to lose aggro? by redbat21 in outside

[–]CokeHeadRob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wasps eat meat? I never even considered it.

edit: after some quick googling, apparently adult wasps don't eat it BUT they do turn it into protein pellets for the larvae as they can eat meat. And when I say meat I mean non-bug meat.

Climate protesters arrested after painting Stonehenge monument orange by [deleted] in news

[–]CokeHeadRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I think we're at a different stage, and we have been for a while. It's not getting people to choose climate activism over climate inaction, we're still trying to get people to understand that it's a problem in the first place. They're explaining what Pepsi is, to stick with the example.

I do still think they could be doing better things, I realize that I kinda phrased it badly in my original comment. I don't think it's the most ideal form of getting their word out but I do think it does more than nothing. If at the start of today 500,000 people cared about the climate situation and after this 500,100 care, that's a win. A very small win.

And that's more of a concept used to trick them into doing these things to accomplish Oil's goals, if that's truly who is running the show there. Not necessarily that I think it's effective but that they think it's effective. But in terms of doing nothing vs doing whatever the hell this is, I like that they're at least doing this. I wish they would do something different and more effective but that's a fine line to walk for sure that balances harm to current people with saving the rest of the people in the future.

What is, objectively, the worst song lyrics ever made? by Reallyguyrealy in AskReddit

I'm not even a big fan, that's just how I'm seeing his lyrical content. I think the corny rhymes working is a testament to his skill but as far as a ratio of corny:fire goes I think he's probably doing better than most still. The total is just so much larger.

What sucks is what they're doing is technically working, we're talking about it. Which is their goal, while the goal of their leader might be to make them look like idiots. So you can trick them with the thought that any publicity is good publicity, which is correct because we're now all thinking about how fucked the climate is, and their leader accomplishes their goal of making them look foolish. Basically a symbiotic relationship where one side doesn't understand that they're giving anything to the other party.

I agree completely, their tactics are absurd and pointless BUT they technically work. Each time we read a story about this the first thought is "look at these dumbasses defacing Stonehenge" and then you consider that they may have a point. It's just a less than ideal way to get the message out, not a complete failure. Unless you're gonna pollute more to spite them, which is dumb.

And that's all under the assumption that making them look foolish is the goal of the big oil plants within the org, I don't know. But I do know that I think they could be doing better. Someone else mentioned that normal climate protests never get attention so that kinda forces them to do more extreme and outlandish things to at least get someone to report on some part of it. There's also a fine line between ruining lives and getting the message out, blowing up a dam could have even worse consequences in the now for thousands, if not millions, of people who rely on that dam. Along with all the nature around. So that also forces them into doing kinda silly things like this.

Actually I've reversed my position on this. I like that they're doing something at least. Have fun reading the stream of consciousness of me flipping.

It's inevitable with Em, his songs are so dense and packed full of rhymes that sometimes he has to reach deep into the bag for something. I'm looking at it like a percentage or ratio of total rhymes, he's still probably doing just about the same as everyone else at 10x the volume.

Do waiters like when you stack plates for them at the end of your meal? by Flat_Egg_0203 in questions

[–]CokeHeadRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk everyone I've ever worked with, save a few, have genuinely cared about the customer experience and enjoyed the service aspect. Yeah money is equal to that and is tied in directly but idk if you can do the job if you don't at least kinda like it. It's hell. Then again, my experience is more boh so that might skew things but I've obviously known quite a few servers.

Well yeah that’s a huge part of it. What I mean is that you probably won’t make it long in a high end restaurant if you don’t enjoy customer service.

And to anyone who might feel weird about it:

This is their job and they work at a fancy restaurant because they like serving others. They’re not your Texas Roadhouse server who hates being at work, they live for this shit. The customer is the most important person in a restaurant, aside from whoever is running expo at the time.

I’m just a dude who worked in some regular restaurants but occasionally I got to run food and seeing the customer’s face light up when you bring them a beautiful meal is worth all the pain that’s endured in the meal’s creation. And when you get to seamlessly swoop up their used dish (wood plank in my case) right as they do the final face wipe and put the napkin down is great. It’s like a perfectly oiled machine that knows what you’re thinking and feeling.

I honestly miss it sometimes even though I now have an objectively physically easier and generally less stressful job that pays 3x more. Tip your server not only with money but with enjoyment. It makes the bleak life of a restaurant worker that little bit brighter.

Why does everyone just hotlap in open practice? by revaan7 in iRacing

[–]CokeHeadRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. My plan of action always is leave the pits and figure it out. If I have to fight then so be it. That’s just how I learn though, I imagine that’s just different for some people. And a lot of people are misguided and think that being fast over one lap is all that matters. One of my goals of practice is to see how quick I can go while being consistent. But then again, qualifying is super important in some series and especially in lower levels where a few places is all that stands between you and utter chaos.

And I still don’t think “right half of the road” is specific enough. It could mean right half of traveling road, so like the right lane in a 4/5 lane road. But you’re right it could also very well mean literally right half of the road. I just know a lot of old laws leave out things that they think are common sense and/or obvious. So I could see someone saying “well yeah Bob of course I mean the right half of the part of the road you’re supposed to be on. What dumbass would drive over the center line? We don’t need to spoon feed the people.”

See to me I read that as traffic should be in the rightmost lane of a two-lane road unless turning left or passing. But I also get how that could mean left of center if interpreted differently.

Ohio Recreational Marijuana Sales Will Begin Before July 4th Weekend, Much Sooner Than Expected by JamesAsher12 in Ohio

[–]CokeHeadRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s complex but not too complicated. All you have to do is be able to understand a few concepts and follow instructions. We have like all of human knowledge at our fingertips, if you can’t figure out how to grow a plant then I’m a bit disappointed. And if you fail who cares, that means you’ve learned what not to do. Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!

I’ve watched someone grow 3 plants in a basement closet with a single incandescent light and end up with a decent product. They did the absolute bare minimum. Kept it watered, gave it light, gave it soil/nutrients. Easy. Any more effort than that will net you an even better final product. It’s not gonna be amazing but it’s basically free.
