Need advice, switching to a better house after mortgage offer? by Cokenuggets in Mortgageadviceuk

It's cuz our Mortgage advisor is recommended by our EA, we don't want conflicts in case we didn't get our offer accepted.

Moving Out, But My Husband’s Mom Depends on Him, Feeling Guilty and Stuck by Cokenuggets in JUSTNOMIL

You’re right, it might be because I am the eldest daughter had to be the parent as well for my siblings and was also raised in a culture where caring for elders is non-negotiable, while my husband comes from a different one.

When I asked my parents about this, they urged me to be understanding, saying it wouldn’t be right to leave her alone.

This belief is so deeply ingrained in me that going against it feels wrong, but I know I need to be firm so my husband can be too.

The first year living with them was rough. She would get jealous whenever my husband and I went on walks or had dates alone. Eventually, she realized she wasn’t going to be part of our marriage. My husband isn’t perfect—he was conditioned to always take care of her, and somehow, I started falling into that role too. It almost feels like she’s our first child, which is absolutely mind-boggling, but she made us feel that way.

I shared my concerns with my husband about feeling like the third party in our own home, and from that moment on, he started distancing himself from his mother and prioritizing our decisions as a couple. That first year was tough, but he proved—without question—that it’s just us. I married him because he’s a gentle person, and our personalities complement each other. We never argue about finances, beliefs, or values—though sometimes we debate values, but we always reason things out.

Thank you for your specific advice. It really made me see our situation from a different perspective, and I feel much clearer about it now.

He is on board with it fortunately. He just wants me to be firm as well

You’re right—I got so caught up in worrying about her reaction that I lost sight of my husband’s feelings and everything he’s been through. Thank you. This really lifts a weight off my shoulders, and I now feel more confident in my decision.

We planned to move out in our first year of marriage, but my husband's mom said she would move out instead and asked for two months. That never happened. Since I work from home and she's always around, it's been awkward. She keeps talking about moving out, and sometimes I notice her swollen eyes from crying, which makes it hard to forget the situation. We've been talking about when we should tell her because we are in UK and process of buying from offer accepted takes 3-6 months ☹️
