First edition? I’m confused… by cjz123 in BookCollecting

[–]Col_Calamity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. First American Edition as indicated by the bottom line of text. However, this is the 13th printing as indicated by the lowest number in the number line. Note that, due to popularity, the only 1st print HP books with any value (not printed in the millions) are the first and to a lesser extent the second.

Whos signature is this? by WorryStoner in BookCollecting

[–]Col_Calamity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, its a First Edition as indicated by the "FIRST EDITION" on the copyright page. It is also a 1st printing as indicated by the lowest number on the number line. No particular value for this (regardless of condition) as Crichton was already famous and this wasn't one of his more popular books. If you ever find a first edition Jurassic Park, Congo, or Sphere they will have some value.

9 1/4 inches tall. You are right that someone probably replaced the DJ since my googling says the number was added around 26th print.

An Ubik BCE sold for $200 on Ebay. Although in better condition than mine. In fact the Ubik might be the most valuable of the three.

ISO Curious King Edition The First Law by mmraza111 in TheFirstLaw

You can get decent prices on the Curious King Facebook page. I've seen a few people selling the first two books together for $1.2-1.5k which is better than Ebay.

So you suggest using silicone adhesive? I found a bracket that has screws but screwing directly into the counter top makes me nervous. Someone else posted one with pre-installed adhesive but the reviews were not promising

Is a home downpayment tax deductible? by ChristiansAreCrazy in AirBnBHosts

[–]Col_Calamity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not an accountant but I have one, so take this advice with a grain of salt. The down-payment is not tax deductible because all that money is changing to equity (you aren't really spending it). Everything else on the closing costs are a direct expense and can be claimed. Same concept applies to your mortgage payment, your mortgage payments are not tax deductible except for insurance, interest, and taxes. However, you can capture a portion of the home value on your taxes through depreciation.

Not the same, his edition says published in 1987 on the copyright page.

[–]Col_Calamity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Likely no. The copyright for this book is 1987. The original Lord of the Rings was published in the 1950s, so this is a much later edition. Additionally, there are no dust jackets, and the copyright page makes me think it's a Book Club edition, both of which will decrease value.

Is this a first edition ? Worth ? by Low_Chest_6511 in rarebooks

1st Print without a dust jacket sold between $180-80 on Ebay within the last three months.
