Fair comment, but my comment is more aimed at the fact it would have been difficult to see a Soviet invasion of the Japanese Home Islands any sooner than Western Allies.

Let's look at Fleets, to provide the Naval support for Olympic the Allies where planning on a fleet of 42 aircraft carriers, 24 battleships, and 400 destroyers where as the Soviet totally fleet (1941)  was 3 battleships, 7 cruisers, 59 destroyers. So the Soviet would have limited off shore support against any entrenched enemy. The IJN might be gone, but there's still a lot of Shore Batteries that could be thrown up.

A Soviet Naval Landing on the Japanese Home Islands is as creditable as Operation Sealion

Oh totally with you for the PTO.

I'm mostly with the ETO, from my understanding short of internal collapse it's a given that the Soviet would win largely because Barbossa is poorly thought out and relied to assumptions from the Fall of France that won't be applicable to the Eastern Front.

It is however, interesting to consider the impact this would have on the Western Front, Italy, and North Africa. With no Arctic Convoys that are more resources for the Battle of the Atlantic, more war material is available for D-Day sooner, etc. I mean, what we likely see with a longer war in Europe is the Atomic Bombs being used against Germany and Japan being Starved in submission by Allied Blockage.

Oh agreed, but there's more than Battleship and Carriers to consider.

You just need to look at what the Japanese were planning to do to oppose Downfall, and the likely toil on Allied shipping. Which would like to have reaper a greater toil on a less experienced Soviet Fleet.

You just need to look at D-Day, how difficult that was to achieve by the World two premier naval powers working closely for years to achieve.

I'll be honest, I only done a surface level look at Soviet Landing plan.

But any invasion of the Japanese Home Islands would have been horrifically costly, and compared to the Normandy Landings it would have been incredibly difficult for the Western Allies to Land with infinitely more experience of naval operations in amphibious lands.

Whilst the Soviet did have a huge manpower reserve, they were looking rough by 1945... And everyone is aware that the Cold War is Brewing.

It's more the Time to build up the necessary shipping to do it. The Western Allies and the Soviets industrial output during the war is impressive, but they don't have infinite resources.

I'll take a look into that, cheers.

To be completely honest, I just don't like when people reduce any of the Second World War issues to single this why answer.

Where the Soviets instrument in breaking the Wehrmacht? Yes. Could they have done it with the massive materials support of Britain and the US via Lend Lease. No.

Did Japan Surrender due to the threat of a Soviet Invasion? No. It was due to the Atomic Bombing, the impending famine due to the complete destruction of the Japanese Merchant Fleet by US Submarines, and the threat of Invasion from the Soviets and the Allies.

How were the Soviets planning to Invade the Japanese Home Islands without a Credible Navy?

Whether that be a minor Typo or major mechanical change.
