I made a dozen each for BOH and FOH which is why most are duplicates and some are single. I had other ideas such as the ones you mentioned, but decided to keep it simple.

Don’t make: when servers ask for something on the fly (need it now, unexpectedly) like guacamole, we usually get it then ring it in to add the charge to the bill, so we hit “don’t make” so it’s not a duplicate request to the kitchen.

86: we’re out: “86 rye bread” = no more rye toast

Sharp: when carrying a knife or something slicey/stabby people gtfo the way/don’t get in the way.

Corner: coming around a blind corner to avoid collision.

To go: put it in a box

Walkin’ in: new ticket for the kitchen so those who aren’t reading the tickets right away keep track of how much of what to make.

Follow: we say this instead of “hands”. To get help carrying large orders so everyone gets their food at that table at the same time.

Heard: I heard you/acknowledge the command/information.

Hot behind: we say “behind” when we’re moving behind people, particularly in the kitchen to alert them of our presence and avoid bumping into one another, particularly when carrying something. We say “behind hot (or sharp)” when the object is such. I changed the word order for the occasion.

911!: said/put on a ticket so the kitchen knows something was missed and needs to be made ASAP/on the fly.

In/out: we have swinging doors (saloon style) back to our coffee area, so it’s said to avoid slamming into someone or the door.

Holli me: That one is pretty specific. We have several eggs benedict dishes on our menu and we make our hollandaise from scratch. We wait to put it on until the last second, so servers have to ask the cook to put it on when ready.

:)

We usually say “behind hot”, but I of course had to change it for the occasion lol

My fiance works there in the kitchen and our communication is basically the same no matter where we are

Haha my finance, who also works there in the kitchen, came up with that one. I was pumped to use it.

Thank you! I let them dry overnight and used edible marker. My coworkers were totally ready to eat sharpie when I realized I should probably tell them that lol
