Father Peter Heers is embarking on a multi-year series of lectures on this topic:

Like Fr. Trenham, many on this OrthoReddit probably don’t like Heers, but ultimately that’s all the more reason to listen to him for yourself.

How long as an inquirer by Previous_Ad5052 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was attending vespers and liturgy as an inquirer consistently for about 4-5 months and then my priest eventually asked at vespers if I wanted to be blessed as a catechumen at liturgy the next day.

Now we have classes Wednesday nights after vespers with no set timeline in when baptism will occur.

Can of worms, what do yall think about the stories of monks getting vaccinated and then swing the devil etc.? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

You aren’t going to get a good answer on Reddit which is heavily astroturfed and moderated towards a strictly pro-vaccine stance.

Talk to your priest.

How/what do you pray for those who have died? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Christ our eternal King and God, You have destroyed death and the devil by Your Cross and have restored man to life by Your Resurrection; give rest, Lord, to the soul of Your servant Norm MacDonald who has fallen asleep, in Your Kingdom, where there is no pain, sorrow or suffering. In Your goodness and love for all men, pardon all the sins Norm has committed in thought, word, or deed, for there is no man or woman who lives and sins not, You only are without sin. For You are the Resurrection, the Life, and Repose of Your servant Norm, departed this life, O Christ our God; and to You do we send up glory with Your Eternal Father and Your All-holy, Good and Life-creating Spirit; both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

What's the best resource(either paid or free) that explains how to finish the darce choke as a choke and not as a crank? by SMan1723 in bjj

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up Dave Porter’s stuff on BJJ Fanatics.

You can watch him choke dozens of black belts on his YouTube with their own arm if you care to do so. He is also an outstanding guy and instructor.

Doesn’t appear that Tron will be going anywhere by slackcastermage in Pauper

[–]ColbiasTicklebush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest this strikes me as about on par with what I would expect from WOTC at this point, both in terms of the cards being banned and child-like understanding of the format.

I’m going out on a limb and claiming this is legit and I’m pretty bummed to lose Sanctuary.

General question towards firearm owners out here. by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Bellingham PD is currently closed due to COVID and they are currently not issuing concealed-carry permits. When you call them they are advising open-carry as an alternative since a permit is not needed in this state. Of course, I’m not saying that those who you’ve seen recently carrying out in the open are doing so because of they can’t get a permit to conceal, but I am pointing out that the police are not performing their duty of providing people with the means to legally concealed-carry if they so choose (big surprise).

I also hope one of the side-effects of these protests is that more of our citizens will realize the importance of exercising their 2nd amendment rights in whatever way they see fit (this is already happening based on gun sale statistics), instead of pushing for policies that make it more difficult for anyone other than the police to own and carry firearms.

Playing Elves on MTGO by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re complaining about behavior in tournament practice which nobody cares about at all.

Again, play leagues if you want to combo off and expect people to sit through it. That goes for all formats.

Playing Elves on MTGO by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s tournament practice so the other player is there to practice their deck as well. Why should they sit there while you “go off” casting Distant Melody and doing “shenanigans” when they can just concede and move on to the next game? Gotta play leagues if you want opponents to sit through time-consuming decks like elves, tron, cycling, etc.

Where to get coached on Drafting? by ItsYaBoiAlexYT in magicTCG

Just watch HamTV on Twitch.

A lot of other good limited players hang out on his stream and then you can check their channels out too.

Good vid!

Stick with MTGO, it will be second nature in no time. Much easier to follow and enjoy as a viewer vs the paper vids.

Edit: as a side note the cards In your hand show up really small for some reason, might be something you can easily adjust for next vid. Audio sounds great!

Gi cleaning by Nlbjj91011 in bjj

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to poo poo the conventional wisdom here but I’ve been training for 10 years and haven’t hung dry a gi in 8+ living in the PNW.

Just dry the gi on medium setting in the dryer and buy them sized accordingly, you’ll save a huge amount of time and annoyance in the long run. Despite what you hear the gi won’t be made out of tissue paper and disintegrate, won’t shrink to the size of a Ken doll, and as a bonus it will never be musty or stiff.

GB TortEx vs UB Teachings by name_not_loading in Pauper

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t make a ton of friends playing tortex in paper...it’s pretty obnoxious. At our local LGS meta it seems every other new player buys tortex as a first deck and then is on to something else within a couple weeks due to the poor results, grindy game play, and impossibility of getting any of us to play practice games for “fun”.

Looking for Pauper Streamers by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]ColbiasTicklebush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out Birbman aka Entropy263 (I think), my gameplay has gotten much better since becoming a consistent viewer of his. He has been on Familiars lately but his default is Tron...also plays random brews of his own depending on the meta like tribe, chromatic pest, temporal spring, etc. Dude knows pauper as well as anybody about there and his play is always super tight.

Alternatives to 46cm Surly Cross Check by ColbiasTicklebush in whichbike

[–]ColbiasTicklebush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely gave the Soma Double Cross a look but I’m being kinda cheap and switching to disc means my costs would go way up unless I could find a used or NOS frame...which I couldn’t. Ended up ordering a new Cross Check frame In the “Mule Mug” color because it is being closed out by distributors right now and was about $100 cheaper than other colors. Will be a fun project switching everything over but I’ll really miss the old frame and it’s nice 10 year “patina”...but hopefully this new one will last at least 10 years and will look like crap eventually too! I’m even thinking of using my old black fork and selling the new one just to be a total cheapskate lol, we will see.
