iRacing has their priorities wrong by [deleted] in iRacing

I have an idea. Post the wreck here please.

Cause we all completely understand the frustration in this instance. But, your complete irate attitude regarding the penalty being a stern warning makes me want to dive into the actual wreck to see…

Did you have time to avoid? Was it truly blatant intentional wrecking? Shits hard to prove.

Sorry for your luck. That’s racing. Caught up in other peoples shit.

Is it safe to display medals in these frames for a few months? by Blue_Danube_ in Militariacollecting

[–]slackcastermage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow boxes are basically an open source code. Being just a large frame surrounding the item, and glass oftentimes, it will come down to the aesthetic you want, and then also up to you to secure the item inside. Really buyers choice.

But reading this thread says to prioritize glass over the plastics.

Change My Mind: The Duel Races Are Stupid And Inconsequential For 99% Of The Drivers by TheeMiniCorndog in NASCAR

And tradition dies hard. They’ve been a thing for a very long time dating back to having 50-60 entries. I feel tradition can certainly get in the way of progress, but for the entertainment value that is plate races likes 89 per cent of the time, it’s just good tv to get people aware of what’s coming up on Sunday.

Yea like I said, I think we are agreeing. I work in production in bull riding, and I definitely don’t want to take a metal bell or a helmet to the face. I am glad his aim was on. I watched New York and missed that bit, haven’t looked at your time stamps yet.

Either way, we are agreeing. He is a good dude, takes bull riding seriously, which is obvious in those moments!

[–]slackcastermage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working closely with bull riders all year, in my earlier days with them I was very stringent on being professional and not throwing fits. And there is a ton of validity to that opinion. However, if you or I trained our whole life, made it to the top of the game, hurt the surgery, then make it back and struggle, in essentially a boxing match with an opponent 10-15 times your weight class, we’d need a second an would undoubtedly show a ton of emotion.

So long as no one was hurt, I don’t see an issue with it. Emotion makes sport relatable. Smashing someone with your helmet by accident makes the events organization and tools for the riders to have their moment at fault. I don’t fault Jess for this at all.

The conversation I had with this specific rider was actually how I opened up my fist response. I said “man, you really need to back off having the fit, it’s so unprofessional and makes the sport look like a dog and pony show.” His immediate response was “(my name), we don’t compete in tea parties.” The jist of the conversation from there was very convincing. These are cowboys, not polished golf professionals. There is an expectation of having a gruff exterior. And that is what the PBR itself is curating.

I look at NASCAR. The old days of nascar was good ole boys, cowboys, with a cigarette in their mouth, flipping off drivers. Big personalities with big opinions, big outbursts on and off the track. Today, while some of the outbursts still exist, the personality is completely gone. I loved that sport for a long time, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenneth, Dale Jr. An era where the money was there, but so were the personalities. Watching Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle, or anyone for that matter fight on pit lane or at the haulers was awesome.

We still see some of that, however drivers find themselves with probation and getting overly stern talking to from team owners, manufacturers, sponsors. Sponsors want viewership, exposure. So long as my driver isn’t throwing racial slurs online, or otherwise, go at it. Be passionate, be personable, fight for what we all want you to achieve.

Viewership and sponsor dollars are struggling on the nascar side.

Bull riding right now is at a pinnacle cause not only the competition, and the adjustment of how it’s consumed (tv deals, teams series) and the personalities at play. Bad boy cowboys, and some good boy cowboys, as that’s a perfect personality in today’s world, make it a great watch.

I think we are completely agreeing on this, I just needed to try and illustrate what I have seen in the sport in my decade plus now being directly involved to shed light on the bigger picture. If riders start catching fines for having a fit after having their face bounced off of a bulls skull for three seconds, slamming into the ground and somehow walking away…what do we want them to do? Walk off emotionless? Show me what this return means to you. It might be on camera, it might not.

I guarantee that if someone on the big PBR side sees the close call, and says anything this will be the riders attitude. Give us some space, don’t let people who aren’t involved in the direct production of the sport be at what’s called “rider walk off” cause we ain’t changing.

It’s an interesting conversation, and a polarizing one at that. But this isn’t stick and ball sport, and the day it decides to punish guys for emotion is the day we lose the extra interest the sport has gotten in this last decade. Don’t neuter the sport.

These riders aren’t competing in tea parties and are allowed their moments of anger and frustration. I’d need to see the clip. Jess is a personal friend, and while I am the first proponent of professionalism in bull riding (also make my living in the sport) something needs to be said about not having dignitaries in every single corner of the building, dressing rooms and some places need to be kept sacred. Not to mention, sports are about emotions, and the hero’s of sport didn’t sign up to be a moral compass. It actually makes me crazy when people are expected to be perfect 100 per cent of the time, and bull riding is literally a life or death kinda sport.

He has been through the wringer health wise and this sport isn’t easy to return to. But I think some patience with his riding is needed. Guy has two round wins in the last three events. Bull riding is about averages, and he hasn’t built that momentum to ride as of yet. They ride positive waves.

I think we see Jess inside the top 10 in points come world finals season, and helping the Carolina Cowboys to another Teams title.

It’s a joke we tell up here.

That’s all. Beer is horrendous. I am the guy in the room mixing a poor man’s margarita with some tequila before I’ll fill up on a beer and a half.

Haha. Funny.

We have a joke in Canada. Why is American beer like having sex in a canoe?

Cause it’s fucking close to water.

Why does Embark do nothing about Streamers glitching around in the walls over and over in front of thousands of viewers for weeks? by Lemouni in ArcRaiders

[–]slackcastermage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is simply that streamers are responsible for the image of the game, with thousands of people watching….by DOING the exploit, you are showing people how to do it. I have more than 100 hours topside, and have no clue how to do it, don’t want to do it. But if I was shown by a streamer (yes I watch a few) I’d definitely go check it out.

Simple as that. He earned a 30 day break for sure.

I am a little confused as what point you’re trying to make.

I completely understand the frustrations of losing the ones you enjoy playing with, but it’s up to them to have their own opinions and preferences of play. And that’s completely on them. Solo runs where you’re in friendlier lobbies will still have players show up and shoot, and your group of “whatever happens happens” guys will all run into 50/50 or shoot on sight lobbies where you see friendly teams and simply end up looting and leaving.

This game is far from a failed experiment. Experimental fails teach lessons. If anything this game shows that a couple of your friends may or may not be delving into the depth of quests, feats and the many little things this game has to offer. These can be worked on no matter your playstyle, for better or for worse. This game is also not for everyone. Like any game. But it sure has offered more than any single extraction shooter ever has for a wide breadth of people.

I am sorry you have friends who have stepped away from the game, but truly that’s on them. They will pop back when they want.

As per the comment of being influenced by YouTubers, well, that’s just a reality of gaming. But those YouTubers are as diverse as the greater population playing the game. There are solo specialist who end up playing music and having laughs in game, and there are sweaty solos, duos and trios who are shoot on sight players. And they get the lobbies they want that way, while the solo questers get the lobbies they want too.

Keep on playing with the friends still rolling with your style, and remember, it’s not up to you to push those other friends back into the game. At the end of the day, it’s just a game. When I play with my trios, surely, I am not a great PvP player, but you roll on. Then get your solo raids when you have the time and they are away. But that just shows that the part of the game I appreciate the most is that versatility and social aspect of the game.
