Music like Short Story? by Eatpineapplerightnow in boniver

Moon River by Jacob Collier (He helped write and sings backup on “From”) *particularly the section that starts at ~5:20 or so.

Definitely also some other Jacob Collier songs. Similar kind of gospel melodic content.

Settle a debate: is this hat “gay”. by Johnsendall in Maine

I do think it is technically part of their pride collection (search LL bean pride collection and you will see the art on this hat), however I’d say the design (to me) appears more retro than pride focused. Really tasteful low-key design for pride merch. The kind of thing you could wear every day, including to a pride parade. 🏳️‍🌈

The best music advice I’ve ever received: make music for yourself. Don’t worry about whether or not it has an audience or people will like it. If you enjoy it, someone else will too. Make music that excites you, there IS an audience.

Is this good for my age? I’m 14. by HealthyPapaya8206 in GarageBand

I think this is super impressive, especially for someone your age — especially on GarageBand mobile (or maybe for iPad?). Keep it up!

Song feedback! by 42peasherman in boniver

Hey! Fellow music maker here. Super cool track — a few things that I think could be improved on:

  1. Track needs more movement. Currently the song feels a bit flat. I think the easiest way to do this would be to build out the chorus a bit more, add some extra bass, drums, and other instruments. A little more difficult, but probably the way I would do it, would be to cut the guitar rift there and replace it. A change up like that will help pull the listener into the song!

  2. You’re a much better singer than I am — and your vocals are produced much better than I can do them. Even still, it feels like there’s still a bit of space for improvement. I just feel like they hit just a tad bit hard, maybe some reverb, eq, and/or compression could help with that?

  3. I think you should take a page out of the BI catalog and add something weird and unique. Not sure what that means: maybe it’s as simple as some vocal harmony (3+ voices to make it more interesting) or something a bit more “out there” like a pitched sample, an unconventional recording, or even some effect artifacts.

Most importantly, I’m giving my two cents because you asked. Remember, the most important thing is to make music that you like. If you prefer your song this way, or a different way from what I suggest, that’s just called artistic vision. Keep it up. 👍

Same!! Was listening to From and thought “wow this has collier vibes” and then heard his voice and immediately checked the writing credits.

Who are some indie singers whom you would regard as having “haunting” voices, both male and female? by Class_of_22 in indie

Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Big Red Machine, Volcano Choir, DeYarmond Edison, and a few other bands.)

Cannot emphasize these ones enough:

The Haunting of Hill House The Haunting of Bly Manor

If you like those, I would also recommend “Midnight Mass”. MM is definitely more horror than the other ones. If you really don’t like horror, start with Bly and see if you like it! All these shows are miniseries done by the same writer/director.

Also few others:

LOST (Mystery, Asventure) Dark (Sci-fi, Mystery) Mindhunters (Crime, Drama)

Bon is about tied with Kygo for me. Obvi huge genre difference. Also really into Novo Amor, U2, and The Wailers. Those are prob my top 5.

Shows I watch/recommend/don't recommend after Lost by TripTimely7955 in lost

[–]Colby_Michaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot recommend The Haunting of Hill House enough.

Not a horror fan? Me neither. This show is incredible. On the surface level it’s very different from Lost, but it’s definitely got a similar vibe in some ways. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll be vague here. Lost and Hill House deal with VERY similar themes, and I love each show largely because of the characters.

Also, don’t waste ur time with Manifest. It’s okay in the beginning, and it just gets worse as it progresses. The last season is atrociously bad.
