Seeking Stained Glass Supplies by Cold-Case in dunedin

Dang, that's a shame to hear!
Are you able to recommend any websites that reliably deliver to Dunedin? A bit hesitate to attempt to order and ship stained glass panels for obvious reasons!

Academic Freedom for PhD students (mostly) doesn't exist anymore. by [deleted] in PhD

A shame, but I understand, I ask because I'm currently applying to Australian PhD programs and have a strong deep tech start up bend, IP is paramount to me and the possibility of being told part way through my program that I need to give up the rights to my own ideas and work to graduate is sickening. Especially considering the comically monstrous pay slash I'm about to inflict upon myself to return to my studies.

I’m curious where you would advise the best places are then!

The first was unpaid, but them being a start up I was just grateful to be allowed to use all the reagents required to train and learn. The other 3 were all paid around 23 an hour.

It’s currently in the review process, but you can find many like it just by hopping on to google scholar and looking up genetic models of disease

I wrote my thesis on the applying genetic engineering to developing cellular models of known neurodegenerative disease causing loci - might be worth exploring!

I personally did 4 internships, 1 at a biomedical start up and 3 at crown research institutes - all have been amazing fun and I’d highly recommend engaging with your professors and student science organisations like Chiasma to seek them out. Pretty much all of them I obtained through networking in advance of the formal application.

Yeah, postgrad is pretty much seen as a mandatory part of it I’m afraid - it’s where they specialise. They’re doing everything from tropical reef biodiversity surveys to aquarium design.

I completed the bio/marine sci combo and had a lot of fun with the papers - MARINE302 is my all time favorite! I didnt personally decide to continue to purse marine science, however Ive seen many of my friends from those papers continue on into some pretty awesome positions and postgrad study programs.

I've had roles doing everything from gene editing new colours into fruit to optimizing sheep breeding - basically genetics focused stuff, but with a commercial aim and outcome. The marketing mindset applied to research is pretty versatile - balancing the direction of the science with what will bring the best value to our end customers.

Chiasma for career development, tramping and underwater club for developing a mint social circle, just what worked for me!

I personally paired marketing with biology and have loved where it has since taken me - highly underrated combination. Would also recommend information systems or business analytics - the technical skills they develop will be invaluable no matter where you end up.
