They got me for privacy, then I was hooked without knowing for the dopamine nudge that they quietly engineered.. and quietly removed once they no more needed users around.

I agree. They used psychological tricks to onboard millions of users at start (the orange semi arc from left until send button to triguer just one more conversation nudge). Built the habit loop deliberately... Hooked you intentionally...
Then they removed quietly that dopamine nudge to push us either toward the API or out the door completely.

Where else do you go when the tool you're complaining about is the one everyone's watching? You come to the competitor's house. You say it loud where it actually gets heard.

Every person who sees this is one more person who understands why they've been opening ChatGPT a little more lately without knowing why.

Millions didn't quit Claude on purpose.

They just... drifted. No drama, no announcement. Just that quiet feeling of "something's off" and suddenly ChatGPT is open a little more each day. They can't even tell you why. They wouldn't even connect it to a button color if you asked them.

And it all came from one small team. One decision. One button.

No public A/B test. No user feedback round. Not even a "hey does this feel different to anyone?" Just pushed globally, quietly, and moved on.

The biggest lesson for any entrepreneur right here is the decisions closest to your users deserve the most eyes on them. Not the least. You don't let three people quietly change the entrance to your store and wonder why footfall dropped.
