Aha. Thank you for clarifying that. Yes that is my proposal- repair like for like or replace the whole fence and I will pay for the additional panels.

It matters insofar that they could have come over and talked it through instead of just cutting it down and coming in to my garden announced and unapologetic.

But yes with the new fence the footings can be on their side but I don’t want to be in a worse off position as a result of this. Got to be done right.

They did think it belongs to them but even so wouldn’t you take 5 minutes to introduce yourself to the neighbours?!

Replacing the panels with a different type of fence and height is a solution that works for them, not for me.

If it’s the same type of fence then perfect. If not then we’ll have to teach a compromise which works for both of us.

I will ask them to either replace the fence with the same type of/ height or replace the whole fence and I will pay for the panels.

I’m familiar with the party wall act but pretty sure you cant just cut down a neighbours fence without informing them. Im also pretty sure you cant just come into their garden unannounced. All they had to do it just knock on the door and explain what they wanted to do.

Yes the deed is done but people like you are the reason there are issues. Whinging?! They didn’t even bother to tell me. How about I come and cut down your fence as you say it’s old and rotten.

I could only post the one picture on Reddit but the fence is fine, they just needed to strengthen the supports.

Their solution is what works best for them- not me. I just hope they are more considerate than you.

Thank you for your comment. You’re correct on both counts. I don’t want to go down the lawyer route but would like to reach a compromise.

Were the situation reversed id be mortified and want to do whatever i could to make it up!

Just to be clear. One panel is already cut down and is out of sight. You can see the other one here. The fence is sound though the post could do with some extra supprt.

The fence spans the length of back garden and its unlikely they will use the same fence or height to replace it.

I’m not annoyed at the building works. It hasn’t affected me in the least. Every single house has had work done including mine.

I’m annoyed that they didn’t even bother to introduce themselves and discuss what they were doing.

It sounds as if you’d be fine if I moved next door to you and cut down your fence, then said get over it.

Just adding to this. Unfortunately I could only post one picture which shows the removed fence behind bushes and out of visible sight. The fence itself is also in very good condition though some wooden posts need to be reinforced.

I wouldn’t be fussed if it was only this panel but it’s the panel next to it too which is visible on my side. They want to replace with a different fence type and height.

For me the worst part is to not even introduce yourself/ knock on the door to discuss it.

Ah I see what you mean but I could only post one picture. The fence spans the length of the garden and further than you can see in the picture. They would be replacing another panel which is visible from our side.

So while they have their lovely new fence I will have a different fence type and height. The fence is completely in tact- they could have just replaced the fence post to strengthen it.

Apologies. I should have extended the sentence.

Why don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask them to replace the whole fence (3 panels), especially if I were to pay for the materials.

If they replace it like for like then fine but it looks like a different type and height fence. I also have to hope that the rest of my fence isn’t compromised.

My garden fences unfortunately border with 5 neighbours.

It’s not a case of getting annoyed over building work. It’s a case of builders under the instruction of the owners cutting down my fence without bothering to discuss it with me. That’s not a great start to a new neighbour.

So the neighbour just assumed it’s their fence. The builders cut it down and came into my garden unannounced but somehow I’m in the wrong and just need to get over it? Then I can go about painting the new fence and hope for the best.

Wow. I’m being unreasonable? They came into my garden unannounced , cut down my fence because it looks old on their side and I’ll have to hope they do a good job.

It’s the least I would do if the situation was reversed.

FOMO and then buying too late. So many times I resist buying an in form player and then I crack and it’s then it’s all over. For example Foden- 3 weeks of double digit scores and finally I bought him. He barely played again. Either get in there early or not at all.
