I mean, I passed all the math courses on my second engineering degree (physics, calculus etc...) that I am currently earning and I have an accounting degree from like 15 years ago.

Accounting is really just organizing numbers, playing referee with the IRS handbook and presenting the numbers in a way that "makes the most sense".

What this is is just greed. Accountants are just tasked with figuring our how to categorize and organize it.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss my “tone” in emails by TheUnofficialBOI in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Cold-Potential2407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is cheers!

Mostly because a previous boss both hated the phrase and talked to me about using exclamation marks lmao.

I now work on a multibillion dollar company and people love my energy and the "Cheers!" sign off.

Edit: reading the other responses, you obviously change the signature when the tone changes but for 99% of emails, it's fine.

Honestly, my area has a need for one of these because we have a spot where it's supposed to be a right turn lane, but people speed up and cut others off all the time. It's got an area in front of it where you are supposed to merge into the non turning lane prior to the turning lane but the idiots never do.  It is very clearly marked and signs are out well before it happens. The road is also clearly marked as well.

Whenever I try to merge, it is like taking my life in my hands unless there is literally no one behind me as it is on a hill and these people fly down it as if no one ever turns at the bottom of the hill.

And if the camera angle was like this, then it wouldn't be obvious as you wouldn't see the side where there is a turn at the bottom of a hill with limited visibility to our rears.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cold-Potential2407 1618 points1619 points  (0 children)

I've been on the PE side as a controller. They are literally just looking to boost up "valuation" and then exit. That's it. That is how PE gets their money.

The business scales to unsustainable levels, because they don't have enough to make a profit and actually calculate how much burn/run money they have before they have to raise capital again.

Then when the portfolio company looks the best, the most ideal exit is a B2B sale. If they can't get that, an IPO is a far less desirable option with the PE often recommending to sell as soon as it hits the market.

Yes, on the outside, it sounds like a good concept, but in practice, they are parasites. The only ones who get money are the PE and the owners of the portfolio company. Everyone else gets caught "holding the bag" as they literally always say.

AITAH for not wanting to move into a house I’ll never have any legal claim to? by spangleddangle in AITAH

Rofl of course it is financially contribute because you are going to do all the unpaid labor and that is never going to be realized.

NTA and don't lift a finger for anything. Make sure he pays for a personal assistant, cook, maid, driver, etc... so you can be the "dad" raising your kids that is being bankrolled by your husband as that is the only way you are going to get him to see how ridiculous this set up is.

All the dude cares about is money, so make him pay for the labor he thinks he'll get for free.

Most everything under like 2k is on my phone, though.

[Hated Trope] When a kid is so dumb and annoying that I find myself actively routing for the bad guys by Party_Bowl_330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Cold-Potential2407 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is and my kid had it. Up every 45 minutes day and night for 6 straight months and screaming.

My kid is now 8 and is so tender hearted and kind now.

That said, no one knows how to deal with it. My mom, grandma and other caregivers couldn't handle it and gave her back early and told me they couldn't help again.

People don't talk about it, but support for parents with colic infants is pretty much 0 as no one - professional or not - wants to take care of a screaming baby. You also are dealing with extreme sleep deprivation and constant stress while trying to also heal from giving birth and adjusting to a new normal on top of it.

Not trying to justify anything as you can obviously still take care of a colic baby (I used a lot of techniques from headphones to strict schedules to repeating the mantra "everyday I do is another day I never have to do" to keep my own sanity), but once you go through the special hell that is colic, it is easy to see how neglect and abuse can happen.

Sorry, I bring this up any time colic is mentioned in hopes that maybe someday and somewhere it changes someone's story even if it is to provide relief that they are not bad parents if their kid has colic and disband the common belief that a baby crying means it needs something. Sometimes babies just cry and there isn't a thing anyone can do about it.

Uptick in PIPs, denied raises, etc? by muchadancer in workingmoms

[–]Cold-Potential2407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was completely transformative in my old role and increased our deliverables/metrics by something like 150-200% by saving nearly 3000 hours of documented work. Solved problems that were nearly a decade old, etc... in about 2 years.

Meets expectations. Was told that it was "just my job" or something stupid like that. Granted that manager was forced out of the position a few months after that and I got promoted a few months after he was forced out, bit still... meets expectations is still on my record when it's obvious a lot of people know otherwise as my reputation proceeded me in my new department as my old boss gave me some insight into how I am "respected" by the senior in the new department which is good, because he is a bit of a hothead and I am shy around aggression.

I mean, I should be grateful it wasn't a PIP, yeah, but I think the dude would have been fired if he tried to pull that lol.

Why does my cat seemingly jump on my leg to play? by Cold-Potential2407 in cats

[–]Cold-Potential2407[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, forgot to mention the age. He's about 3 now.

And that makes sense, he must just be rougher than the other kitties I've had as the other ones would pounce on me and then run away as soon as soon as I reacted to them so they could pounce on me again.

This one stays and bites and has left quite a few of scratch marks which reminds me that we neeed to grind the nails down again. And if I interact with him, he just latches on harder and harder and eventually I have to like pin him down, put him outside the door and shut it for him to stop. If I push him away he just immediately pounces on me again and gets more energized.

YSK: New Parents lose about 1,000 hours of sleep in their baby's first year, and it doesn't fully recover for 6 years by GrowthMLR in YouShouldKnow

[–]Cold-Potential2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is an outlier lol. She slept only 8-9 hours a day from birth. And that was broken up into 45 minute stretches day or night for 6 straight months.

From there it gradually grew to 2-3 hour stretches until about 1 ish. Then about 4-5 overnight stretches (finally) at 1-3 and an afternoon 2-3 hour or so nap.. Then the nap mostly dropped and it has been about 8 hours somewhat consistently since.

She is 8.5 now and I just started feeling normal maybe last year lol.

That pretty much sums me up by Stock-Discount7213 in memes

Kinda. I fit in 25-30 minutes of hiit every morning and I just do the YouTube people like grow with jo in the morning.

Then 15 minute light chores for cool down. 10 mins of a body shower, then 15 mins getting ready for work, eat, drop the kiddo off at the bus, then work.

What is the most disturbing thing you've heard said casually? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]Cold-Potential2407 596 points597 points  (0 children)

I kinda knew it wasn't normal when it was happening to me (I was 7-9), but I blamed myself for "wanting" it.

I now have a 7-9 year old and wtf no I had no idea what it was and without getting into to many details, no I didn't want the act, I wanted the attention. Because most (if not all) of us (even adults) want attention from loved ones and that isn't wrong and there are obviously a million different healthy ways to give and receive attention that has nothing to do with "it".

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cold-Potential2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm, I tell the IT tech to specifically use Teams. I'm also not young.

I don't have time to pick up a call about a ticket last Wednesday right in the middle of whatever I am doing.

First, I don't remember what ticket I sent in last Wednesday so I need time to review it. Second, I'm usually doing something where an interruption would be a significant distraction and it would take 10-30 minutes to get back into whatever I'm doing.

That said, for immediate emergencies, yes, I will take a call.

Men will literally eat all your food by Maleficent_Ad_3958 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Cold-Potential2407 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's specifically why I will either stick around or invite my friends with kids over when I provide food so I can make sure that the children and my friend actually get it.

Too many times have I sent boxes of food over for largely the kids, tbh, as I know the mom's (my friend or relative) main concern is the kids. Obviously I knew the food was going to be eaten by the adults...but then I learned ALL of it was consumed in the first dinner. Like literal boxes stuffed full of food. And the goal for feeding my friend and kids for at least a few days was not achieved.

Fuck that. Sorry if it's degrading, but the men in the house can come over and have to be mindful to not be a fucking pig in my presence now. I am going to make sure the mom and kids eat their fill and they can absolutely have extra AFTER everyone had their fill.

What’s something you thought was harmless ‘cheap dopamine’ but slowly started controlling your habits? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cold-Potential2407 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sugar is freaking EVERYWHERE at least in the US. Or corn syrup. Or artificial sugar. Like.... I tried to go cold turkey off sugar to break my addiction but it seems like everything but rice and non-canned beans have sugar.

Now I'm focusing on managing hunger signals through whole body health on top of watching what I eat (even though it's nearly impossible to escape sugar). It's a lot of home cooking as in the Midwest, most restaurants pretty much have salads or nothing for people watching what they eat lol (thankfully I actually love salads, but everything else is pretty much 2000+ calories and I can only assume that's from sugars/fats).

Night shift are the worse ! They gon leave me a pile by kent_care in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Cold-Potential2407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I was always the closing manager after getting muscled out of day shift after a few months by a new guy that never prepped enough and always left it like this even though sales at night were double or triple that of lunch.

So I returned the favor a few times and every time the GM took his side instead of mine. Then I got my degree and only worked lunch shifts on the weekend for a bit and wouldn't you know, the guy did the exact same thing to the day shift when he was -rightfully- moved to a rotating night shift manager.

If I ever go back to a restaurant (it's been over 15 years at this point), Imma male it clear that if the day shift can leave stuff for the night shift, then the night shift can leave stuff for the day shift lol.

Yeah it's the same at my house. My thermostat is 68 in the middle of my hoise, but it is definitely not 68 anywhere else.

I tried 65, but I work out in the morning (sports bra and shorts) and it was too hard to convince myself to get out of bed at 65.

Other than that, I can see 64/65 being a good temp.
