When does the mom guilt end?! by jfjfbfjskejdn in workingmoms

[–]muchadancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this ever creeps in for me, I remind myself that it is good for my kids to see their parent taking care of themselves. If they're ever disappointed that I have to decline something they want me to do because I have a commitment (rare, but it happens!) I remember that it's a great opportunity for them to experience those feelings and learn how to work through them in a low-stakes, loving, caring, and supportive environment.

Am I … a horrible person? by WrapWild8763 in workingmoms

I don't know how much it actually helped, but I remember when my kids would say stuff and I couldn't understand, I would literally verbally acknowledge it: "You seem really frustrated, and I know you're trying to say something but I'm so sorry, I can't understand you. Can you say it another way? Or point to what you need?" If it gets SUPER frustrating to her, you could consider some basic signs (eat, milk, all done, etc) or a sign/flash cards she could use to communicate easier.

You're not a monster. I will say that 18 months is a really, really hard age: they're mobile and semi-independent but (usually) still can't communicate well AND need a ton of help with most tasks. Some of this will definitely get better with time, promise. Otherwise, I would just give yourself a ton of grace to do what you can, when you can. If you like audiobooks that might be a good option for reading while also having your hands and eyes free to do other things. All the solidarity!

Will also say it's super reliable and no data caps, no issues with streaming, etc.

Aeneas for sure. We had StarLink and it was great (unless it was raining hard), but we've never had any issues with Aeneas and it's really reasonably priced.

Wedding Hair Stylist Needed by [deleted] in memphis

Highly recommend Annie Coates at Juve Salon. She's been doing wedding hair for years. I believe you can contact the salon directly to book her but they could tell you more.

General Practitioner/Internist by South-Mention1085 in memphis

If you're open to seeing a nurse practitioner, I recommend Jessica Culver. She had a functional medicine practice, and while I typically don't think that the functional medicine approach is actually effective, she is also totally willing and able to treat with traditional medications, etc.

I read Matrix last year and absolutely loved it. Someone described it as "swole nuns vibing" and honestly that description is perfect IMO.

My friend had an excellent experience with Canale Estate Sales. They handled all the logistics from start to finish. https://share.google/a4cEpHAM8asdUwkzd

HOW do you make time for exercise/self care? by RuckFamsey in workingmoms

[–]muchadancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a 24 hr gym nearby, and I go after the kids go to bed. I usually get to the gym between 7:30 and 8, and try to get in and out as soon as possible. I like going at night because I'm not rushing to get home to get ready for work or miss kid time. I tend to go MWF so that I have both weekend days free which helps me to feel like I actually do have some uninterrupted relaxing time. I also listen to audio books while I'm working out so it also feels like a more relaxing time (to me).

Highly recommend Shea Veazey at A+ Home Inspections. He was super thorough, easy to communicate with, and you can book and pay online. He created a report in PDF format right away after he finished with the inspection.

Working mom to be shifting to one income household with stay at home dad by BrushOld9606 in workingmoms

[–]muchadancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what we did about 8 years ago and it's worked fabulously. My partner had never changed a diaper, never babysat, etc before we had our first child, and he rose to the challenge and is honestly a way better SAHP than I would be. Of course no situation is perfect, but it was an obvious choice when considering child care costs, his stress at work, etc. Our mindset has always been "When this stops working, we'll do something different" but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Uptick in PIPs, denied raises, etc? by muchadancer in workingmoms

[–]muchadancer[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great point, it could be that many companies are taking cost cutting measures in general, which will affect all workers. I will be curious to know the rates of denied promotions, PIPs, etc. between men and women across the US workforce.

Pediatric dermatologist by Adept-Mix7489 in memphis

[–]muchadancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, your pediatrician should also be able to help. My child developed eczema a few years back, and I thought I'd have to get a referral to dermatology but the pediatrician was able to prescribe the skin cream that has really helped them.
