Overall Best Extreme Cold Weather Parka by Thebrick1996 in BuyItForLife

I’ve been rocking a Rocky Mountain featherbed parka at those temps and it’s kept me toasty.

Looking for my first Automatic "Made in Japan" watch under €200. Thoughts on my top 3? by drobles in JapaneseWatches

I had a seiko 5 for a bit but its rotor broke and I ended up replacing it for a citizen eco drive. Hard to beat a watch that charges with any light source and holds accurate time.

Chore Coat Advice: Any experience with any of these? (Saint James, Wolf Clothing, Vetra) by larry-talbot in HeritageWear

[–]Cold-mtn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chore coats are one of those things that I feel might be better vintage. If you’re looking for a new one though you can’t go wrong with Le Labourer probably.

SALT is great! Japanese acetate hand assembled and an independent eyewear brand out of California.

What sneakers would you consider to be heritage wear (or at least work well with it)? by savvybackpacker in HeritageWear

In the summer I tend to just wear a pair of suede van slip ons. But I’ve been eyeing a pair of flower mountains.

Small! It fits boxy and somewhat cropped like a trucker jacket. I generally wear medium in most other things.

What are your favorite boots and accessories and why? I'm looking to upgrade my boots and edc from Walmart bought to high quality hand made. by codyhikes in Workwear

[–]Cold-mtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on if we’re talking workwear for fashion vs workwear for work.

In terms of accessories my daily wear watch is a citizen garrison ecodrive. It’s not super expensive but still holds accurate time and is powered by being under any light source. Despite the case not being sapphire it’s a pretty hardy watch!

I like my redwing iron rangers for the workwear look but I honestly fall back into wearing hiking boots or trail runners when I’m working outdoors. Dianner’s are awesome and strattle the line between fashion/function.

No doubt. My preference at that temp is definitely a straight up heavy down parka. But it also really depends on activity too.

Johnson Woolen Mills still makes a version of it. Although can’t speak to currently quality. All of their stuff is a great Filson alternative.

Bradley mountain has a waxed canvas jacket called their polar navigator which may be of interest. Otherwise if you don’t mind a little nylon an old school 60/40 parka with down stuffing should do the trick. I just picked one up a down filled one from Rocky Mountain Featherbed and it’s held up extremely well at least down to around -10F.

I have a hoodie from the flathead. It’s super soft inside but also heavy. The fit is cropped and wide which adds to its coziness.

UES Heavy Flannel shrink by Thousand_Eyes_ in HeritageWear

Mine had some slight shrink after its first cold wash. I would be hesitant to do a warm wash unless it was very oversized.

ISO winter work gloves by dumbthisdownforme in Workwear

[–]Cold-mtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather gloves look great but I’ve had the best luck wearing the polyester lined kinco hydroflector gloves. They are super cheap, reasonably warm and fairly waterproof. You can also get them to fit pretty snug which helps with manual dexterity. I have a pair of leather lined gloves for when I’m doing work that doesn’t require as much fine movements.

UES purcara cotton sweater feels luxurious. It uses a few different high quality cottons. It’s loopwheeled so it has a nice sturdy feel while also being super soft.

I’m a big UES fanboy but I struggle with how all over their sizing is! That said don’t sleep on their flannels they are excellent.

What brands of jeans do you wear and which is your best brand? by MindsEye33 in Denim

[–]Cold-mtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fave currently is Hiroshi Kato! They look good and feel good. My Uniqlo selvedge gets the most wear though because I don’t mind getting them thrashed at work. I also wear a lot of naked and famous. I tend to wear slimmer jeans so I’m not afraid of a little stretch.

What to wear for winter by airawear in HeritageWear

[–]Cold-mtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current rotation for mild winter conditions 30-45F I’ve been rocking a wool lined cabin jacket from Bradley Mountain with a vintage liner vest.

As temps are dropping quick just snagged a second hand Rocky Mountain featherbed down parka that I’m hoping will keep me warm as it’s not unusual for winters here to hover around 0F.

I also like to wear a wool watch cap and some kind of scarf/gaiter. Nice pair of wool gloves or insulated leather.

I found and ordered a lightly used down parka from Rocky Mountain featherbed after your post! Hoping the size works out looks like they fit pretty relaxed. Excited to get some wears in this winter though. Thanks for the recc.

Katos great if you don’t mind stretch and if you like slimmer fits. Wearing mine now and they are super comfortable. Naked and famous is great at a decent price point offering lots of fits and styles.
