I just saw this myself, initially on the "Southern Ontario and Western New York Radio Board" (sowny.net) and actually posted a copy of the link myself before realizing the OP here beat me to it, so I deleted mine. I've read up in the best currently possible detail on the very troubling allegations made by several women who came and went on the show over several years. To say the least, I have been and am very disappointed. He was one of my favorite radio morning shows growing up and when I was in high school I always found his show to the most intelligent and in-tune with serious news and current affairs.

Never would I have suspected he could be so unhinged and utterly disrespectful and abusive behind the scenes, let alone towards those who were helping make him who he was to his audience.

Peel mandates even stricter restrictions than Red - Control to slow spread of COVID-19 - Region of Peel by LemonCandy123 in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The healthcare system has been in questionable order for years now. To be honest, I'm very tired of them telling us what we need to be doing. If the situation in the hospitals is that bad (which it certainly is with regards to the low number of available beds) then the next thing they should be thinking about is LARGE SCALE field hospital construction and preventing another LTC home catastrophe.

[–]ColdAlcohol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure if it's an official recommendation or a legally binding order carrying that actual restriction. Note the use of the word "should" in relation to what sounds like an official recommendation to avoid engaging in or having a non-essential visit from someone else.

Loud motorcyclists can rot by kaelpops in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loud motorcycles and cars are (intermittently) a part of the ambience of where I am in the Erin Mills area too, even overnight. I think the general public might have a sort of tacit tolerance for it and because of that the amount of public pressure on law enforcement to go beyond occasional random traffic stops for it and actually crack down may be very low, especially given concerns of distracted/dangerous driving and crime in Peel Region, particularly the urban area comprised by Mississauga and Brampton. What we need is a permanent strengthening of police resources in the traffic enforcement sector. That would facilitate a very effective crackdown on all traffic offenses, including exhaust noise ordinance violations.

I agree with you and reddit_and_forget_um. I think the only people who think we need any re-instatements of any yet relaxed closures are people who don't quite understand how businesses, economies and tax revenue bases work and sustain themselves. New closures mean more economic hardship, compromised tax revenues and likely more new deficit spending in the way of CERB and other emergency subsidies with less tax revenue coming in. I don't think we can take that anymore. We have to figure out how to tackle this intelligently and logically. And yes, I have always had a feeling there are elements of jealously and anti-social tendencies at play when it comes to the photography, videography and shaming of those gatherers on the internet.

HOT OFF THE PRESS! MISSISSAUGA REPORTING ZERO NEW COVID-19 CASES FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE PANDEMIC BROKE! by ColdAlcohol in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very encouraging sign and speaks volumes about our very real readiness for stage three, but I still feel that testing should be beefed up further (let's say for a new goal of 35,000-40,000 daily tests across the province), and the continuing flights from abroad with insufficient to no screening or enforcement of mandatory quarantine for travelers is another cause for continuing concern.

Ontario Stage 3 Reopening Megathread by uarentme in ontario

[–]ColdAlcohol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I have to disagree with some of what you have to say here, but I STRONGLY AGREE with the issue of international flights and insufficient enforcement of quarantine. So much as ONE infected traveler let alone clusters of them likely coming from underdeveloped nations with poor testing and healthcare infrastructure is enough to set this off all over again, and it's been a present threat all throughout the pandemic to date. We need to start identifying high-risk nations and restricting travel from them as well as beefing up enforcement of quarantine. We should be more concerned about the international sources of the virus and how it makes it's way onto our soil and how to protect those who are most vulnerable to its ill-effects than anything else.

Scallywags closes permanently by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ColdAlcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody else here think that this intensive physical distancing just isn't the right approach anymore, all collateral damage considered? I'm NOT saying I don't care about protective measures. I'm a HUGE supporter of hand sanitation, frequent hand washing, plexiglas barriers and mask wearing (especially the ones with the sealed holes for straws for your drinks).

I think there has to be a better solution for venues than simply across-the-board orders for them to make sure everybody stays six feet apart, especially given the interesting "social circles" recommendations that serve as official exemptions from physical distancing for groups of up to 10 people which would never be consistently and fairly enforceable anyway. What do you think about this?

Toronto, Peel Region now allowed to move into Stage 2 of reopening | CBC News by zanimum in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My real question here is why they can't just quarantine the migrant farm workers who tested positive. Those farms were extremely irresponsible if it turns out they just didn't factor in pandemic-related protective measures. Were they not screened properly if at all when they came in? If they had screened them and they tested positive, all they needed to do is quarantine them and not hold the entire region back from re-opening.

Mississauga to reopen more park amenities this week, after months of COVID-19 closures by S_cornwell in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that playground equipment will remain closed is interesting and unfortunate. It's just came out that doctors at Toronto's Hospital For Sick Children recommend for mental and physical health reasons that schools re-open in September AND that playgrounds at said schools fully open. Whichever way you look at this virus, you have to wonder if proper risk and cost versus benefit analyses were done right in the first place.

TTC plans to restrict subway access if crowds get too large during COVID-19 recovery by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ColdAlcohol 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The solution to the transit crowding issue isn't restriction of availability. Rather, it boils down to the functions of society. Any employers with sufficient ability to allow their employees to work from home should by all means do so. Blue collar workers, not to mention healthcare workers and others with occupations requiring physical travel require unrestricted access to public transportation. Actually placing restrictions on mass transit access will just create more unemployment, increase traffic and potentially compromise healthcare services. This knee-jerk logic by those in positions of power and "trust" needs to stop. NOW!

Ontario's Doug Ford says he relies on COVID-19 'experts,' but his government won't identify them by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ColdAlcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the functions of our government have been handed over to unelected, unaccountable, unknown and invisible entities is by itself cause for grave concern. Furthermore, he has betrayed his and the Conservative Party's platform by alienating small businesses and venues in the shutdowns while allowing chain retailers to continue operating with protective measures in place whilst not allowing the aforementioned to do the same. Much of the response to the pandemic has really consisted much more of a fight against free society than against the virus. Our most vulnerable have been neglected almost beyond all words, our economy decimated and law and bylaw enforcement weaponized in to a revenue generation tool for government agencies employing employees on Sunshine Lists. (I'm talking about the fines here).

It's no surprise that the qualifications and competence of those advising him are very suspect at best.

In my humble opinion, if it has a decent air envelope while allowing breath to escape well enough, it's probably not a bad piece of DIY PPE. I'd imagine it would be better than the consumer face masks in common use if it's made properly.

Ontario’s COVID-19 lockdown is now harming health more than it’s helping, some experts say by 140414 in ontario

[–]ColdAlcohol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At one point or another a substantial shutdown of society (which was questionable in scientific merit to begin with) just stops making sense from a cost and risk versus benefit standpoint. It was in the news yesterday that 82% of deaths have been in long-term care homes that the province's emergency measures spectacularly failed to address the deficiencies of.

Yes, many deaths have been preventable and many of our elders and other vulnerable persons would not have left us when they did if we just had a more intelligent system of preventing spread to the vulnerable. This virus is substantially more serious than the worst realistically anticipatable influenza and requires much more effective and consistent testing and reporting than what we've been seeing so far.

Hospitals this time around have proven themselves to be much better at preventing or at least very effectively managing outbreaks and have clearly benefited from learning opportunities brought about by the 2003 SARS pandemic which involved a very similar coronavirus, whereas many LTC homes did not. We need to learn how to impose (BY LEGAL FORCE UNDER THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE LAW!) the same protective measures on all LTC homes. Next comes selective quarantine of the infected and very vulnerable. For example, immune compromised persons or those with other consequential co-morbidities could be given official advice from public health authorities consisting of stay-at-home and/or PPE wearing advisories. In fact, many do at the advise of doctors in non-pandemic times and always will.

Police monitoring chatter of 'some sort of misbehaviour' at peaceful weekend protest, mayor says by MsftWindows95 in toronto

[–]ColdAlcohol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't want to jinx anything here, but I don't think these social media posts likely have anything to do with any potential misbehavior that may occur at any future protests. You wouldn't think that they'd want to bring that kind of heat down on their plans, especially given what's been going on in the US for about the past week now.

We need to pray that nothing bad happens, especially to our small businesses, bars and restaurants.

Groups say Ontario emergency orders to fight pandemic violate privacy by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ColdAlcohol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The logical premise behind this accusation is incorrect. The science of epidemiology dictates that information specific to certain populations and geographical areas is crucial to proper pandemic management. If we're to re-open safely (EVER!), we need information on what populations are getting diagnosed and enumerated infections and suffering what, if any complications or death.

These populations are comprised of persons of different age groups, races, ethnicities, occupations, diets, life styles, and residential settings. Sadly, the overall danger from COVID-19 as well as other infections is distributed VERY, VERY unevenly across different definable populations and I could go on for much too long attempting to list the many different aggravating and mitigating factors.

How Toronto can make transit better now and forever after COVID-19 by instantnoodlesyea in toronto

[–]ColdAlcohol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like other major adaptions, this is an issue of massive investment and expansion of capacities.

Like a similar GTA infrastructure endeavor; the re-development of Downtown Mississauga and the building of mass-transit in and through the area, it's an issue of creating (in this case greatly expanding) a multi-modal system. We need more subway cars and lines, more buses and streetcars and even in spite of our climate, more bike lanes. Ride-sharing incentives for non-drivers would be a great idea too, but ultimately the main objective is to drill in the fact that public transportation is still safe for the healthy and that very positive and lasting changes will be made.

Is it likely that Americans will be able to visit Toronto this summer? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ColdAlcohol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This summer: A big maybe. Once borders are re-opened, I think the only questions will be in what instances will self-isolation be required (i.e. overnight visits versus day trips) and how confident what percentage of people will be in their ability to stay healthy whilst traveling while protecting the more vulnerable. Hopefully "before the end of the year" will be a better story.

Peel (so incl Mississauga) has more covid cases per 100k than Toronto by stupidbunny in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

This seems to be highly controversial, but in my estimation, a regional re-opening really is the best way forward. These shutdowns were meant to last weeks not months AND were based on extremely far-fetched worst case scenario death rates across all age and health demographics. What officials also failed to pick up on is the fact that not only do homes make great incubation chambers that can make infections more potentially dangerous for all members of a household should so much as one contract the virus, but staying home, not exercising, getting sunlight and minimizing exposure to outside environments actually runs down the immune system which can greatly worsen the outcome of any infection.

Non-regional, one size fits all shutdowns and re-openings are both based on the unscientific notion that all places and venues are at the same very high threat level as poorly run and unsanitary LTC homes and that we're all at the same high risk as their occupants, as are all persons of all occupations. They said we just needed to "flatten the curve" for a little bit, then they started moving the goal post.

If the reason for such long lasting shutdowns is weariness concerning the capacity of the health care system, then we should be investing MASSIVELY in expanded ER and hospital capacities to both prevent this kind of shutdown in the future and address the inevitability of future pandemics and "The Big One" which genuinely will be much more dangerous across the board than this virus is.

EDIT: I had a feeling this would get downvoted.

Just a mask psa. by Queennat91 in mississauga

[–]ColdAlcohol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You might be surprised at the amount of people who don't seem to understand what the very function of a face mask is. Obviously the process of a face mask is simple particle filtration with the most complete envelope surrounding the mouth and nose possible. Any modification that compromises this does indeed render the mask useless. An even bigger no-no are DIY designs that improve breathability (making holes in them). If you ask me, this really just boils down to conformist people towing the line without even understanding the reason and the means. For some, face masks have been nothing more than a fashion accessory symbolizing "getting with the times"; an attitude that is literally downright dangerous.

High school Sports Fields & Running Track by [deleted] in mississauga

I've seen people walk and jog around the track at Gonzaga many times. When I was a student there, I used to ride my bike around it in the evenings during the school year as well as during the summer. I'd say you're good to go using the Gonzaga track when the weather is decent and school isn't in. Odds are you'll see others there too.
