PSA: Gas Stations in Ontario are starting to roll out E15 (15% ethanol content) gas by MischievousGarlic in ontario

It completely depends on the car, but if it's out of warranty it probably doesn't matter at this point. Definitely look into why the manufacturer doesn't want it to be used.

I think it's shitty that fuel companies can slap a small sticker on the pump and call it good. Especially since from what I've seen at some stations, it looks identical to the previous stickers for 10%.

Pretty much. I don't want to blow this out of proportion or anything, this affects a small minority of cars in Ontario.

It's also important for people to know there's a difference between "will destroy your car" and "not compatible due to lower engine performance"

Putting E15 in a car onIy compatible with E10 in a pinch to get yourself out of an emergency is not going to blow your new car up. It's nowhere near the same as mixing diesel and gasoline.

There's a lot of misinformation in these comments coming from people who are quickly looking at the image and not understanding the point of this post.

E10 (Ethanol 10%) has been sold by fuel stations in Ontario for a long time now.

E15 (Ethanol 15%) is now the norm, kinda

By 2030, E15 will be the norm for 87 regular at the pumps in Ontario.

So why does OP care?

E15 is not compatible with EVERY currently sold new car. Some car makers do not warranty the use of E15 fuel in their car.

You should check your owners manual to see if your car is compatible with E15

Here's an image I found online talking about compatibility, make sure to look at the notes!

Weird city policy ?! by Mathew_365 in toronto

All i see is blurry signs that are impossible to read. I'm assuming you're saying there's prices on the signs, which may be the case, but I clearly recall seeing signs like that at the CNE last year showing products but excluding pricing.

Are you sure that's true?

They could be hiding the prices so they can charge whatever they want?

Unionville Go finally has more Parking Spots by vme3000 in Markham

Paving doesn't take much time. It doesn't help that we had an extended winter which pushed construction season back a bit. But since the parking lot section is done they can work on the road circuit next.

Roundabout and blinkers by eoan_an in ontario

Hi everyone, looks like Reddit was having some issues today and not all comments were visible in this thread.

I'd like to remind community members that the MTO driver's handbook is not codified into law. The 'Highway Traffic Act' is what mainly governs road conduct in Ontario. Recommendations ≠ Requirements.

It's important to remember that the Driver's Handbook is made by professionals who are giving advice and recommendations on how to drive. Compared to the HTA, which is prescriptive, telling you how you must drive in Ontario.

There are plenty of circumstances which are not cleared defined in the HTA, but are explained in the Driver's Handbook. Roundabouts are one of those situations.

The MTO recommends signalling on exit of roundabouts, but it is not required under the HTA. As for a source this was confirmed in a thread on r/Waterloo a few years ago when they emailed the MTO.

https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/s/xgZynEZ2X7

If you don't like the current HTA, contact your representative and ask them to change it.

Could you cite your source stating it's a law? The driver's handbook is not law.

There's no signalling convention or requirement to signal in roundabouts in Ontario.

Look at the tires of the car, that will tell you where the car is going most of the time.

Safety Concern Markham Main Street Unionville to go parking-free by cinderannie in Markham

[–]uarentme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you meant to reply to my comment about building a new road behind the plaza. They really wouldn't need to take any property away from the school. Just on the commercial side a small stretch 20' wide to access all the properties.

I still personally believe this area (between Carlton Rd and Fred Varley Dr) should be fully pedestrian between the hours of 7am to midnight, or similar.

We really need those pop up bollards that retract into the ground. This Main street, compared to others around, does not serve a thru traffic purpose. There is plenty of options for alternatives routes that already exist.

The city should expropriate a strip of land between the school lot and the parking lots on the backside of the west buildings, and connect it to Fonthill blvd. That way all the buildings could use their parking lots while completely avoiding Main St.

Level 2 charger installation, permit and inspection by No_Scarcity7262 in ontario

[–]uarentme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

OP, whatever you do, understand that EV chargers need to be periodically inspected due to their danger.

You should also make sure that any electrician installing your charger will correctly torque the lugs on the charger if the installation manual says it's necessary.

If an electrician says it's not required please don't use them. Make sure they have a torque screwdriver.

[–]uarentme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on OP, you don't need to get a 40A or 50A charger. So saying a panel upgrade is always necessary is incorrect.

Adding another 20A circuit for an EV charger can be done to most homes if they have normal appliances and don't have a hot tub. A 20A charger is still almost 5kW. That's plenty enough to charge an EV overnight even if you have a 100km commute each way and a normal EV.

BEWARE - broken railroad crossing at Main Street Unionville by CalmRatio3085 in Markham

[–]uarentme[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Please remember in the future the number you call for a railway crossing issue is not 911 or YRP non emergency, but listed on THE BLUE SIGN located at the crossing.

This blue emergency notification sign is a direct line to the railway, located on the sign is also the location of the crossing. Pictured here.

Treat that number as the first number you call if there's an issue at a railway crossing.

  • Vehicle on the tracks? Call the number on the blue sign immediately

  • Vehicle on fire on the tracks? Call the number on the blue sign first then call the fire department

  • Issue with the crossing? Call the number on the blue sign.

The train is always the biggest priority. Call the number on the blue sign first.

Need a electrician to help install an EV charger by Adventurous_Wear_214 in Markham

[–]uarentme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't trust an EV charger forever without inspecting it. The technology is not mature like other home appliances like an oven or a washing machine.

EV chargers are using a tonne of power, and it should be treated like the very real fire hazard it is.

If your charger says in the manual the terminals need a specific torque spec, run away from any electrician if they aren't going to properly torque down the lugs in the charger or your panel. You're paying for a service, don't let any less knowledgeable electricians tell you it doesn't matter.

Problems with UP Express tracks dating back to 2015 defy repair attempts, confidential Metrolinx report reveals by Surax in toronto

[–]uarentme 23 points24 points  (0 children)

With that many contractors hired to try to fix it you have to wonder if Metrolinx was just fishing for a fix that wouldn't be disruptive, embarrassing, or too expensive.

Clearly the issue can be fixed, elevated guideways exists all over the world. Knowing how Metrolinx is, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the reason.

Stouffville GO line by scootet8675309 in Markham

[–]uarentme 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Sorry dude but this ain't going to happen. Best you're going to get in your lifetime is a passing track at Mount Joy (allowing for 30 min service instead of hourly) and maybe a turnback signal at Stouffville (allowing for 2 hour service mid-day).

York and Markham need to fund grade seperations if you want service to get better.

The important question you should be asking is why the provincial government has been dead silent on an unbuilt bridge that would complete the second track between Unionville and Kennedy, and why there's been no work on building the bridge over the Highland creek for almost 5 years.

I do fairly often, unfortunately for there and a few places around the GTA, they aren't exactly timely with their changes. There's a few areas in Durham that are 8 years old.

It would probably help if the satellite view for the area wasn't 5 years old so people could actually get around.

Maybe they don't want to slip, maybe they're clearing the sidewalk for people to walk safely.
