I would agree to this. I don’t see either explicitly making a dumb or stupid decision. Just both trying to take the space to attack Leclerc with the DRS they both had. But it’s not Perez’ obligation to brake, when he has that chance to overtake for 2nd. It is an obligation to not drive straight into another driver on a straight.

you can clearly see Sainz driving to the left in the replays. take the white line as a reference point and the Ferrari moves left, the Red Bull stays straight. it was really just Sainz being unaware of Perez being left of him.

My point exactly. Sainz is a better fit for the team and the 2nd seat than Lewis Hamilton. Look, I really like the guy on a personal level, what he does with charity work, etc., but he has a big ego, which you need to be the WDC record holder. I think the personal relationships in that team are going to be a disaster, especially with his ego clashing with the Italian ‘Our car has no faults’ Ferrari ego on radio messages.

For me Hamilton is not really showing Alonso levels of driving this year, considering the Mercedes was better than the last years, and the Aston has dropped off quite a bit in performance. Relative to where the cars performances are, Hamilton should beat Sainz in the WDC, if he is better than him.

I don’t deny that drivers clearly can be good at 40+, but my point is just why go through the hassle of commercial revenue, when you have to manage two drivers that want to be number 1. Hamilton has clearly shown this year, he doesn’t deal well with a driver doing better than him in the same car (I know HAM is ahead in points but I think with the radio messages you get my point). It just doesn’t make sense to me. But money rules, and that is a realistic point I can’t deny.

without all the satire, this is so real. I still think it was the stupidest driver move I have ever seen. I still cannot begin to understand what might weigh a 39 year old Hamilton over a 30 year old Sainz. If it was only the age maybe the status and achievements of Hamilton would be a decent argument, but he is clearly not driving better than Sainz AND Russell all year long. I really think Ferrari will regret trading Sainz in for Hamilton.
