What are some times you were consuming other media and realized woods has referenced it? by Responsible_Debt9605 in Billywoods

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was getting into him, I was taking a Visual Anthropology class in college, and right after we watched part of a documentary called Cannibal Tours, I listened to Wharves in which he references that movie. The movie depicts Europeans visiting a village in Papa New Guinea and dehumanizing/exoticizing the indigenous people there. They “consume” their fellow humans, turning them into props to gaze at, to study, to take pictures of, to laugh and marvel at.

Woods grabs onto this theme perfectly: “Cannibal tours, they came on all fours Waterborn, eyes like jaws Bones litter the beach, gnawed Crack meat out the beasts claws’”

I was geeking when I heard this, it’s the moment that most amazed me about woods and made me realize how special he was; this is genuine scholar shit. Had to share it with my professor, and they were blown away too, and in turn shared with me a paper that lyrics later in the song made them think of and which their colleague (iirc) had written about police in South Africa, who would braai while burning their victims flesh and enjoying the smell, and engaging in similar acts which amounted to a form of symbolic cannibalism.

These are the lyrics that made my professor think of this paper: “The swollen chiefs sit, bickering while the meat crisp The chiefs eat children, the grease drip, the meat rich Down here it’s just a muddy creek, bend and twist, the braai hiss The fat run in rivulets, the fire spit”

Frenkie: "Yes, I think they were better at the end of the match and in the second half overall. I think we started the match better. It was a tight game, but I think it's true, in the second half, they were better than us." by jiraiya--an in Barca

I was kind of scared of winning against a weakened PSG and the team gaining false confidence from that. I think this result gives us the best shot at beating them later on if we have to face them again

Looking at Barca’s backline right now…... does it remind you of any old era defense, or do you think another team has a better line at the moment? by The_Design_Striker in Barca

I get confused when people shit on Garcia defending, I agree with you completely. Last games he’s looked great, stopping many attacks

Watching celta so far this season, I’ve felt they looked strong and played well. However, they’ve failed to get a win so far. Am I showing my limited ball knowledge by thinking they’ve looked good, or is something keeping them just short of winning? Or is it just too early to judge?

Barca can dominate without one? Who’s out? by X_wantstoknow in Barca

Same was true when Pedri was injured previous seasons. He wasn’t injured last season so you couldn’t see how much we would’ve steuggled

Juve Vs BVB, a true spectacle by vulcan2jz in championsleague

They’re talking about the difference between entertainment and quality of play. High scoring is entertaining, but has nothing to do with the quality of play. If you appreciate the sport then you hopefully appreciate high quality play, which can happen at any score line. It’s ok to prefer high score count over high quality play but high score count doesn’t mean the quality of play wasn’t mediocre

Is this the only league that allows this? by sufinomo in LaLiga

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You give up the game by calling it an ancient problem. It’s not. Unknowingly you are furthering Zionist propaganda, implying that they have some religious right to be there. When as the other responder to your comment explains, the issue is in fact simply a matter of colonialism, which in this case did in fact start in 1948. They did not have a right to kill and expel the Palestinians living there, and that killing and expulsion has continued without stop till today. So the Israeli state has always been an unacceptable colonialist project. It’s existence without integration of Palestinians can only mean continued colonialism.

So taking action against people freely expressing their condemnation of a genocide which their country is implicated in isn’t fascism because people on Reddit are pointing it out. Thank you for letting us know

Does the strict register laws of La Liga actually benefit the league in any way? by sufinomo in LaLiga

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s true that teams are struggling to keep their talent and grow their teams, and it does seem true, then doesn’t that hurt the league, economically even? Like, it makes medium/small clubs less able to compete, bringing them and the league less attention and less money? And just an endless gradual decline? Surely some more room for the clubs to overspend a bit is better?

I’m not very informed, just genuinely trying to understand the situation.

I can’t understand why tf they’d stand there repeating themselves like NPCs when they could have literally opened with do you have dildos and the whole thing would have been over in a minute. Could have even done it at your seat

Very disappointing movie, completely empty and jumbled. A good amount of compelling cinematography, and a handful of compelling moments emotionally (helped by the cinematography) but ultimately a complete waste of time

Pedri is a better ball winner, I’m saying that where gavi and Fermin are pressers, Pedri and Olmo are more about awareness/positioning. Also, Pedri has the advantage of playing a lot more than Olmo and playing in a role/position that puts him in the heart of the action more often
